OK, so what's the concensus with Dick Clark? Should he continue the New Year's celebrations as the icon that he is, or is it time for him to step down? I for one feel uncomfortable for him now. I think he was worse this year than last.

I fell asleep before he came on. All I saw was a little of Seacrest. Yuck. That is sad that he seemed worse than last year because I thought he was really struggling last year.

That was the only reason why I watched the show...I wanted to see Dick and I thought he looked great (minus all the make-up). If he feels up to it and wants to continue on doing the show.....I'd say, go for it :)

I didn't watch it so I had to look for a pic to see him. Found this one and I must say, Dick is looking mighty good to be, what, about 103? :jester:

I've seen continued improvement in Dick Clark since his return and I think he should stay on as long as he wants and is able. Honestly, if it were not for Clark, I'd probably rather watch Carson Daly.

awww, I though DC did good, considering he is 103....he has a bit of speech difficulties, but gosh, he is the icon. I thought it was so sweet his wife came on set and they smooched it up at midnight. :)

He is the only reason I turn on the TV on New Year's! I hope he continues if he feels up to it. It just won't be the same without him! I will say, it broke my heart to watch him struggle with his speech. The same with Luther V...it seems as cruel fate attacked both of them right where their gifts were.

As much as I love Dick Clark and admire him I do think he needs to retire. At some point icons and others need to pass the baton onto someone they mentor. I think he feels obligated to bring in the New Year for all of us and we need to let him know that he needs to enjoy it in a warm place with his family.

I enjoy my memories of him and have passed that enjoyment to my daughter. He will forever be an icon and those of us old enough to remember when he was the host of American Bandstand know that he is one heck of a person sticking his neck out when others would not. I can remember my mother stating that rock and roll would never last and at one time she decided American Bandstand was the devil's work (go figure). I remind her of those conversations now and she sticks her tongue out at me.

Either way...staying or going, I will always support his decision. He is "the man".

    Grace:cool:

I am liking those new icons.

I don't know. I'm kind of torn about him retiring against his wishes. If his health doesn't worsen, it would be like telling your elderly grandfather who had had a stroke not to come out of the back room at the family Christmas dinner and ruin it for everybody. Dick Clark is like a New Year's Eve fixture in NYC, about like the ball itself.

In the next couple of years, they can just turn back the clock, do a virtual Dick Clark of the past and he won't even have to be there. If Elvis can perform on American Idol, then Dick Clark can continue to host the New Year's Eve celebration for ABC.

I think as long as he wants to do it let him! Too many people just throw away our senior's. He's gotten older, its not like we all won't be there some day. I have heard so many people say its time for him to quit or he dosen't look well. SO WHAT! These are probably the same people who drop their parents or grandparents off at a old folks home and never visit because they don't like to see all the sick old people strolling around ! I have very little tolerance for stupid self centered people.

I thought he looked good myself...like Dick Clark should at his age. He doesn't speak with the same youthful enthusiasm as he once did, but he is doing a lot better and you can tell it. The first year back, he was obviously having a difficult time with the thick speech, but you can tell that he's likely had speech therapy and has improved. We all change with time. People get older, skinnier, fatter, darker, lighter, become grey or lose hair and suffer with health problems. Most will need glasses as they age. Some people may become more feeble, walk with a cane, lose a limb or be forced into a wheelchair.

Its about acceptance of the fact that people change and not so much about perfection or too high of expectations. Dick Clark will never be like he was prior to his stroke, but he's still Dick Clark and pefectly able to contribute and appears to want to. I like the current arrangement. I'm not a real big Ryan Seacrest fan, but he's okay and he is performing the bulk of the duties that Dick Clark would have just a few years ago. Clark is the main host and handles the countdown. It's appropriate in my opinion.

    What I was thinking.

    Yeah, move over bacon....

This society does not respect their elders.
