Hi, I am new down here and I am looking for a vacation place to take my 6 year old daughter to during the winter for a few days. Any idea's within a few states of NC. She already went to Disney so need something different. Loves the water, snow (but does not ski), shows. Thanks!

The Topsail Beach area is really nice. (NC) You could also check with Myrtle Beach (SC) and Asheville, NC and Cherokee, NC. (Both really nice areas in the winter) My personal fave is Robbinsville, NC. It's a nice quiet place with beautiful views, great state parks nearby, national forests and great dams. (Fontana Dam) It just can't be beat. Nice and peaceful. My kids (9 and 3) love it there.

Robbinsville? Wow..someone else knows where that is. My dad's family is from there and we still own a bunch of land there. Is a very nice place and really quiet.

LOL, what the heck is in Lynchburg? I lived there for little while, and I don't remember any tourist attractions. :jester:

I vote for the NC Mountains, Gatlinburg and Myrtle Beach.

I vote for Charleston, SC! 4 hr. drive and absolutely beautiful Historical homes, museums, etc.

If you like history, Williamsburg, VA is also a good choice.

For a 6-year old, I second the aquarium. They have several locations, and each one has great hands-on activities for kids.

Heck, I'll go to the aquarium any time. Not just for the kids anymore! I know what you were trying to say about "Hands-on" tho, KDs.

Yup, it's lots of fun. I always have to put my hands in the water and pick up a horseshoe crab, and various other creatures.

It's a fun place to go. I don't think they're open right now. Google and find out about their schedule. I could be wrong, but I think they're going to reopen around April or May, something like that.

You're right, they're opening May 2. No need to google, I provided a link to their site, and it's on the first page. ;)

My husband's dad if from there originally. We go to visit as often as we can. Our family absolutely loves it. We try to visit Fontana Dam every time we go. We stay at Phillips Motel. I LOVE them. It's the best friendly hotel around there.
