I'm sorry to hear this happened to your daughter. It would be nice to see if the dance school provides lockers to protect theft.
That kind of thing was very common at West Lake when my daughter was in middle school there. Cell phones, Ipods, name brand purses, calculators, gaming devices like DS's . Really anything that was worth something. Chalk it up to a painful life learning experience and IMO you shouldn't replace the item right away. Let the lesson sink in that they need to be careful and protective of their valuables. It stinks, but not a whole lot to be done, especially if kids bring things like Ipods and cameras and games to school even when they are told not to for this very reason.
:iagree: They put those rules in place for that VERY reason. Not a thing that can be done except a valuable lesson learned. I am sorry it happened to her.
The camera wasn't hers. It was her friends. The school dance was immediately after school so I guess the girl probably wanted to take pictures of her friends at the dance. She asked if she could put it in my Daughter's purse. My Daughter feels terrible about her friend's camera. The cell phone has no service. It's just for show. She had it over the long holiday in her purse. After all what 6th grader NEEDS a cell phone? Definitely not mine.
well there is your silver lining.....no service on the cell phone....that's hysterical. I would like to think when the hethen gets home and shows up with a cell phone and a new camera, his/her PARENTS will recognize and ask questions.
Did you report it to the school? (you may not have had time after the dance) If not I would. They probably cant do much, but if they have a talk to the kids someone may rat out the culprit. My son said he had to lock all of his belonging in the cafeteria during the dance.
They do lock their backpacks in the Cafeteria but unfortunately a girl needs her purse at certain times. I called the school when we got home but no one was there. We will report it on Monday.
Even though the backpacks are locked in the cafeteria it does not mean that they are safe. They throw those things on top of one another (the kids) and anything can get misplaced or broken. Call on Monday and follow the rules. Maybe in the future you could ask a chaperone if they would help with a camera issue or a teacher. You might suggest that the school could make some money by having someone take pictures for the kids and parents. Grace
Good news! The school called back and we should have the stolen items back in our possession tomorrow.
Oh, sorry. The only thing they told me was that the items are at a young person's house and will most likely be returned tomorrow.
Glad to know it all worked out. I wonder how the other person got the items. Hopefully it was just a mix up. Grace:lol:
