Can someone please share with me how long it takes them to commute to Seymour Johnson AFB from the Cleveland area during normal weekday commuting hours? Thanks in advance!

That sounds about right to me, but I don't know about traffic during regular commuting hours. I usually go in the middle of the day.

Yeah, but they assume you're going to observe the speed limit. ;)

The last time I went it seemed like it took about 50-1 hour (driving the speed limit).

Aside from escaping the Clayton traffic, the worst will be the few lights there entering Goldsboro on Hwy 70 and then having to get in the far right lane in single file to re-enter Highway 70. The rest is a breeze, unless the traffic on Berkeley Blvd in Goldsboro is unusually heavy. If you're not necessarily aiming for the main gate, you can blow past Berkeley by a 1/2 mile and turn right at the light at the Chevy dealership and that goes into the base through a secondary gate.

I thought that gate had been closed. I know when I was stationed there in the late 80's that is where I'd enter and exit most of the time instead of having to deal with Berkley Blvd.

When we had to meet the recruiter there not too long ago, it took us about an hour to get there.

The base is a closed base now. If you do not have a military ID card and such, you have to get a pass to get on base.

that is where my son is hoping to get stationed at after tech school.

Tell him to ask for overseas then... thats what happened to DH.. He signed up to go as far away as he could get... and then he got stationed at SJAFB. He did get overseas eventually, but I think he was at SJ for about 2 years.

    LOL

He and I are going to sit down and pull up lists of AF bases so he can start making his picks. Told him if he went somewhere overseas or real far away, he needed to go someplace he could fly me out for a nice vacation, like Hawaii!

I don't think its closed, although it may be. That's the gate I always use at WOW. Then again, that's just one day out of the year and for a special occasion. It does look, however like a maintained gate whenever we go and I do see traffic heading in that way throughout the year. I'm in Goldsboro every week. As far as I know, that gate (can't remember the road name) along with the Berkeley main gate and the Slocomb Street gate is still open.

Scott AFB isn't too bad. We spent over 3 years there. The base itself is pretty nice, not too far from St. Louis. There is some crime in the area, but he should be fine as long as he stays out of East St. Louis.8) When we were there, there were 5 major commands, so lots of saluting to do.
