I'm with you MNred... My son's name has always been one of the top 5. My daughter's name in one of the top 100 but has recently gain a lot of popularity. Growing up my name was never found on those cute pens or key chains you see in souvenir stores so I chose names that way my kids wouldn't have my problem.

I even had a priest tell me my daughters name is very southern. I was taken back until I heard his explanation. Then I agreed.

Hey, I just love Kiefer Sutherland. And, I think the name is cool. Now, Zappa...went a little overboard. But as stated above...to each their own.

I have a friend who named her kids based on the cities they were conceived!

I think my daughter is named a common name, but we do not spell it the traditional way. My ex picked out her name and I picked out the spelling.

Marginally better than one of my sisters who just made stuff up. I can't post them, but one of her daughter's names is out there. Once you get used to it though, it's really not a big deal.

SS, just be glad your momma didn't do it to you and don't worry about it. Kids can always change their names later.

My Mom made my life difficult by calling me by my middle name instead of my first name. I don't even try anymore with doctor's offices, etc. I just answer to the first one. But if a telemarketer calls and asks for "Kimberly", it's a dead giveaway! :jester:

The one that grates my nerves when I am out is Aiden or the 10,000 ways you spell it.

Alot of the reasons for the weird names is when the kids go to school and you call out Michael and 5 kids stand up, or Michelle just to name a couple..I guess it was getting old.

Me and my brother and sister all have names you can't make nicknames out of..my daughter is the same way..

I'll bet they are all glad that none of them were conceived in Tick Bite.

I remember many many years ago I use to watch Y&R, and there was a girl on there whose name was (on the show anyway), Harley Davidson Cooper.

My maiden name is german, so all through school, I had to spell my name anytime someone said it.

I swore when I had kids, they'd have normal names, spelled normally, and by george, they do! LOL

My maiden name is German Polish, so I had to spell mine too. When I got married the first time, people were relieved that I had a name they could spell!
