ahh, naming children. This is one I have SO much trouble w/. We too thought of implications if they go to school w/ an "odd" name or something. However, we had to decide whether or not to keep the names that were originally given to them. And we thought things through as well. We knew that our son's original birth name of Murat would probably not do too well in school and he was young so we changed it. 2 of our son's actually came w/ "normal" American names despite them being Russian. So we kept their names. 1 of our other son's we kept his birth name but changed the pronounciation of it as it sounded very feminine over there and knew we couldn't do that to him here in the States. We also thought about initials and things. Originally, we were going to name one of our son's a certain name and then wen we put his initials down realized it was B.S. & then our last name. could NOT let him go through school that way.

Now, our 3 girls on the other hand we kept their original birth names despite them not being typical. I feel if they've lived w/ it for so many years, it would be hard to change it. Always gave them the option of using their middle name and always made sure it was a common American name. None of them have been made fun of in school for their names. It is obvious they are Russian sounding names but not one person has given them a hard time. However, if they ever decided to go by another name, I would let them.

That all being said, does it really matter too much what someone name's their kid? I do agree that some of the celebs get carried away though. I know of Apple, Finnius, and I thought there was a Coco of one of the celebs but could be wrong. I just can't imagine a kid going through school w/ some of those names.

I have a few on the list of common names but not too many. Honest to goodness, I knew someone growing up whose last name was sausage. The parents named their kids after different types of sausage...Patty Sausage, Link Sausage, Frank Sausage and stuff like that. I thought that was mean. To each their own though.

Anyone else have weird names of people when growing up??

Stephanie(common name but maybe not normal--LOL)-- mom to 7

Hmmm............kiddo's name is number 6. Didn't realize it was so popular. But he is named after someone, not out of a baby book.

Kept my adopted daughter's natural name as her middle name and she hates it. I thought it might bring some sense of self to her but she cannot stand it. Oh well, at least she likes her first name. I have friends who have named their children the following names (as I did they did it as a unisex name):

    Dylan (yes, after Bob)
Taylor (yes, after Sweet Baby James)
    Blair
    Madison
    Bailey
    Ryan

Can you guess which are boys and which are girls? Doesn't really matter because I have friends who have used the name either way.

That was what Courtney Cox and David Arquette named their daughter. The name makes me think of a monkey at a zoo.

The only names that bother me are like when people name their kid something stupid. I met a girl named Janana , like her parents were not total idiots. Or one time at the Dr. office with my kid waiting on her name to be called the nurse called out precious and whatever her last name was. Who the F would name their kid after a CAT? The thing was the kid was not even precious she was digging her little nose the whole time in the waiting room. I made mine sit in my lap cause I didn't want her to touch anything covered in booger's.

The Hairy part fits you well.

Went to Scotland a couple of years ago to see the wife's ancestral castle (boy I was underwhelmed) and walking the streets we ran into a Scotsman who walked up to me and started talking, after the third time of trying to understand what he wanted I figured it out, he needed a smoke. I told him that I didn't smoke, he promptly asked me "What the F good are you then?", it is still the one aspect of the trip my wife refuses to talk about. :)

Actually the third one was more impressive! :)

The first one reminded me of High-school, one of my buddies couldn't understand why his tires only lasted a month (even bleached the tires).

The same could be said for rednecks.

Except maybe leprechauns, and the celebrities they send are Jeff Foxworthy and Kellie Pickler.
