Back to the original thread, hire a lawyer if you think it is worth missing the hassle of going to court yourself. I used to go to court when I was younger, now that I have more cash to spend, etc., I might consider paying a lawyer if I got another ticket.

i know someone who always uses a lawyer and gets out of everything but it costs about 300 bucks.
never use one and just pay my fine. But I only get a ticket once every ten years.

 

I knocked on a door the other day to serve some papers and the male voice on the other side said, "That's either the PoPo or my mother in law!"

CO (really means Correctional Officer, but when I'm working the courtroom, the inmates get used to using CO)

Which one bothers you the most?

 

You expect to hear most anything, especially in some situations such as an arrest or domestic altercation.

You stay focused on whatever task you're trying to perform and try not to let any verbal sparring distract you, especially the profanity.

As for the others, such as PoPo, etc., or any other name, I don't have a problem with any of them.

Oh, I got called the "Fuzz", too, recently. It was a young guy. He must have been watching an old Mod Squad show or something!

I just saw it in a movie recently, that was what I was loosely quoting on the other page of this thread.

 

This may be one origin:

California late 80's - police officers that patroled certain beaches on bikes wore a vest that said PO in huge blockletters on each of their chest which means Police Officer. They usually ride around in group of two's.

When you see them coming by you see the word "PO" "PO" when they stand next to each other.

Correctional officers are generally called "Boss" or "Chief".

 

Nice theory, but probably just an urban legend.

First, the lettering would normally have been on the back. When riding a bike, the rider is generally leaning forward which would make reading letting on the chest difficult, if not impossible.

Second, in every city that I am aware of in California, the police department doesn't use "PO" (never saw it in all my years of living in California), they will have initials that would include the city (Huntington Beach has HBPD, Venice Beach has VBPD, etc)

 

It's funny the 3 years I worked as a correctional officer for the state of NC, all I ever heard the inmates call officers was CO, unless they had a higher rank such as Sargeant, Lt., or Capt.

Never heard the words Boss or Chief used except in movies dated pre 80's.
