Anyone else see this show? I really am bothered that 16 year olds are shown to be this spoiled. Brand new Escalade's, birthday party's that cost millions. Showing this to teenagers shows spoiled brats and is unreal. I am so glad my children are not into MTV...whatever happened to the music? OMG...I am going to be 40...lol
I have watched this show before and it is crazy. There is a new show on WE called party Mommas. It's basically the same kind of show but some of the kids are younger. The other day they showed one where the kid was only 3. I think the Mom spent about $500,000.00 on his birthday party.
Yeah, I saw one of those - the Bar Mitzvah one I think. And I would not even let a 16 YO watch MTV nowadays. It's perverted and unrealistic.
I used to let MM watch this show, until she started going on and on about what was going to happen at her Sweet 16. And then I happened to catch an episode where they played "Seven minutes in heaven" and the girl came out of this room with a bed and candles with her lipstick all smeared and grinning from ear to ear. It has since been banned in my house.
The only show we watch on MTV (and yes I admit I watch it with my kids and like it) is 'The life of Ryan'. He is the cutest thing and his story is very good and he treats his parents respectfully and his brothers (which is the message I am trying to get across to my boys). We enjoy it and he is precious. The rest of the line-up on there is crap.
We watch that too, as my 10 yo is into skateboarding big time. For her 11 yo bday all she want's is a certain skateboard...cost a fortune!
OMG, I know! Simply ridiculous!! I am appalled at how spoiled some of these kids are......they expect expenisve cars, entertainment etc..... and treat their parents like dirt, worse than dirt! But its got to be that they were raised like that - to some extent anyway, or the parents just didn't do a very good job of parenting - let the kids run the house and demand things. We used to watch it some and just laugh, now it just gets on my nerves, so we don't anymore. My DD and I like to watch the Hills, Newport beach, Realworld, Run's House. Run is pretty funny!
The thing with "Sweet 16" is that is their lifestyle. They live on buying expensive things. That is how they live. Now I personally will never be given the opportunity to live like that (unless I win the lottery and even then, I still wont be like that). Also, alot of it is unfortunately scripted. There was one on recently as a re-run where there was a "dance scene". It was actually filmed three or four times before it was complete enough to filmed. The producers/on-set film crew also creates alot of the drama as well. Believe it or not, they will actually say to the party person, "I cant believe your mom got those lamps". So no, its technically NOT reality TV. Same thing with "The Hills" which I dont care because I still watch it anyway. One of the very first episodes of "Sweet 16" was of two girls throwing a party. They actually charged a cover fee and donate all of the proceeds to charity.
My baby turns 16 this Sunday and I'm so glad she has never seen this show. All she wants for her birthday is a new router so she can get back on the internet. Bless her little heart! PS/ When did I get so darn old as to have a 16 year old? I just turned 40 at the end of December and I'm still trying to let that sink in . . .now I have to accept that she's 16. How did this happen? It seems like she was just walking around in diapers with her sippy cup and now she's this old? Have I been sleeping for the past 15 years???
Mine turns 16 this year also. She has already "started planning her party"! I told her she could plan all she wants but she will get what she gets, like it or not! I don't recall having a "Sweet 16" party. My folks just had a regular ole birthday party for me. Besides that, most of the girls any more that have "Sweet 16's" are not so sweet. As far as that show, I have seen it a couple of times. I was shocked at the fits that were thrown if they did not get what they wanted or I think one girl said something about she better have gotten something and I am thinking how ungrateful she was. Good thing she wasn't my daughter!!!! She might have gotten a "real" birthday spanking!!
My boys love some skateboarding too. Their Father bought them a high dollar skate board for Christmas, the ones you have to buy the 'deck' 'trucks' and wheels seperate. Now they want a 'spark plate'. They get the CCS magazine, which has all kinds of skateboards and stuff....They have a shoe fetish already too, love some skates shoes and those things are expensive....
I agree...it keeps them outside and physical... could be worse things right?....it's what the cherubs are into, so what's a Mom to do?:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:
Skateboards were in back in my day too. I remember being so envious of those that could ride the things standing up!
HAHAHAH! It's a movie we used to watch "back in the day". Yeah, I did my time as a skater chick! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VInHfsHHR-A
