Just wondering if anyone knows anything about the ranch townhouse developement there, it is near Pinehurst Park. Is it a good area? Nice people and upkept homes? Is it mostly younger people starting out, or older people retired or a mix of all? Thanks for any info. -K
I live "near" this area and I am not picturing where you are talking about??? Hummm??? Is it the Centex community in town right before you turn onto Timber for about 50 feet and then on 50/Benson?
The subdivision is called Sandlin Branch. Basically if you turned onto New Rand Rd, from Rt 70 (going towards Benson) It is on the Right had side a few streets up, it looks like if you turn left there of off New Rand there is a single family home developement.
I wouldn't recommend it. About 10 years I had some friends living there, and it was just starting to go downhill. But I think they have a lot of crime in there, break ins and things like that. And a lot of people that can't afford anything else end up there, not sure how, if it's through the gov't or what. But I see police in there a lot also, and have seen a few "seedy" looking folks in there. My husband's office used to be right across from it, so we'd see people coming and going all the time.
Oh, no! Just trying to get my mom moved down here . We miss her and her us. BTW, don't know if you saw, but I posted on my hair thread that Jenny Boykin did a fantastic job! I'm thrilled. Thanks so much for the rec! -K
Yep got it. Make sure your mom calls me when she moves down  Hope you guys are doing wonderful. Oh, did you see a bunch of us are getting together on the 21st at the Draft House again. Can you make it?
There's a new development going in on Glen Rd. that's supposed to have amenities for seniors. Not assisted living, but geared toward older/retired people. There was a thread on that a while back. http://www.4042.com/4042forums/showthread.php?t=13322&highlight=assisted+living Don't know if it's anything you or she would be interested in.
I would definitely tell her to call, but I'll have to convince her, LOL. Unlike me she doesn't worry about anything and would think it a waste to spend on. But I'll work on her. I didn't see you were getting together agian. I have not been on here at all lately. The 22nd might be tough for me, but I will keep in mind and try! -K
It's the 21st - next Monday - MLK Day, some people are off work! Hope to see you there. (I think we met, briefly, at one of the lunches last year.)
KD - Thank you for the suggestion. It is funny, when I was telling my mom about places, she said "as long as it is not all retired people" She is a VERY young for her age woman. She looks 10 or more years younger and has the health and attitude of 20 years younger. She is in better shape than me!!! So we need to find a good mixed aged neighborhood that is inexpensive. -K
Well, that's easy. Take your pic of any neighborhood on N. Shiloh, S. Shiloh or Cornwallis (the Jo Co side), those neighborhoods are a smorgasboard of people!
Oh, but not to say my mom has anything against people her age and older, just she likes to be surrounded by people of all ages. My Nana was the same way. She was so funny at 75 years old she did live in a retirement community and used to say "everyone is so old here" She just never saw herself that way. And I don't know why I thought Harley said 22nd. 21st will be hard too. The kiddos are out of school those days. Not up to bringing them along. But I might work something out. And yes we did meet briefly, KD. it was nice and I'd love to do it agian. -K
not sure of the price range she is looking but the Tavernier off Sauls Rd is nice! Also there is a 55+ community being built on Avesboro Rd near Lowes Food... so 55 and over is not "old" LOL http://www.thevillageataversboro.com/default.cfm or go here and in subdivision type in Tavernier http://www.fmrealty.com/site/property/search.asp
