I'm O-, but scarred to death to donate. My dad has donated blood as long as I can remember, but I just don't know about doing it myself. Call me a wuss.

    DONATING

If you have been in the military and have spent more than 6 months in certain areas of Europe and the Middle East, you may not be able to give. They can give you more info when you fill out the paperwork.

I never realized that until just last year - the day before I was scheduled to give blood, I went to the Red Cross website and actually read about who cannot donate. I was surprised at all the restrictions they now have that they did not have 15 years ago. Since I fell into the category of being affiliated with the military in Europe for a certain timeframe, I'm not able to donate. My question is -- how long before a restriction is lifted. It's now been 23 years since I was in the Army living in Germany.

The website said that the restrictions on military is "Indefinate".
