See HG, that's the beauty...we don't have to be fans...just a tourist trap to hold a festival once a year for the real fans and make the $$$$$!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't understand Cleveland Springs. Where are the springs? It sounds like a city in Florida. Forty Forty-Two, North Carolina just doesn't sound right. My guess is the most votes for Cleveland Springs came from the business owners / developers who have Cleveland Springs in the name of the business or shopping center Where are the hills? Cleveland Hills does not fit the area either. It sounds like the name of a subdivision rather than a town.
Actually when this vote was held, there were no business owners who had Cleveland Springs in their name that i am aware of and all the ballots were mailed to residential homes in the target area. This vote was taken about 4 years ago from the folks who actually live in the 4042 area, what business back then had that part of their name?
I was here for that vote and there were businesses using Cleveland Springs. In the Smithfield Herald yesterday, there was an article about the proposed incorporation of Archer's Lodge. They have a petition with enough signatures to petition the state for incorporation. You only need 15% of the population within the limits of the proposed incorporatation area to sign the petition. Certainly incorporation probably benefits the businesses in the area the greatest. That is why I suppose GCCC was driving the effort before. Rather than just talking about incorporating maybe it is time for someone to start the petition. (I'm out of the "Cleveland" proposed boundry so, no, it won't be me .) Stop talking and start doing or accept you'll be Garner or Clayton in the future. Archers Lodge has made a huge bit of progress in a very short period of time.
With incorporation comes additional taxes for law enforcement & administration. How long are the mayor and town council going to serve with no pay? It will get old handling the problems with no pay.
I'm betting the cost will be a whole lot less than if Town Of Clayton got us. That's my reasoning behind supporting it anyway. I moved outside the town limits for a reason. :?
We're at a point where we're going to have to consider some level of taxation...my preference would be to incorporate now and have some self-determination rather than wait for Clayton to scoop us into their tax-base. It would also maybe be a way to have some control over the development that is so schizophrenic around here (tin-sided stip malls and statues/fountains/formal gardens...what a combo!) (as far as names, I'm all for 'Cleveland School')
Most of those suggestions sound like subdivisions. Especially Cleveland Springs. I guess that's why I'm against it. Although it would be appropriate, as subdivisions seem to multiply faster than bacteria here. Cleveland School is different and I like the way it sounds. When I was growing up in Clayton, when referring to this area, it was the name we used.
"where do you live?" "right outside of Raleigh, heading East on 40" "??" "exit 312, heading towards Wilmington?" "oh, yeah, ok" "Cleveland School area." "oh yes!! I have lots of friends that live out there, 40/42 right?" "yes, that's it" the way it will always be, no matter if it becomes officially or unofficially anything else.
I'm not so sure about that. Under Clayton you have a whole lot more homes and business taxes to support the "city".
I don't believe the Clayton EJT is going to go much farther than the new US 70. And I don't expect the diameter of 4042 to be 5 miles across, so I will not fall in the limits. I would like something to define it though. I still think "4042" is the perfect name, but in honor of the new Wal-Mart I think we should call it "Lack of Planning, NC".
I've always called it 4042, and people always seem to know what I'm talking about. I agree with Hugh, 4042 sounds good to me! I have referred to it as Cleveland, and I'd say that was perfect, but it doesn't matter since that's already taken...
Just wondered why you think that? Didn't Clayton try to annex the new Lowe's Food Shopping area around hwy 50? That's way past the new US 70.
Insider knowledge P.S. The hwy 50 thing was a request for annexation. I am sure if the 4042 community asked to be annexed that the city would consider it.
How about...Opinionated? I think it fits most communities. Even though some of us don't live near 40 and 42 we love the group that does! Grace
