Anytime you want to share your Insider Knowledge, I'm :allears:. I hope you're right that Clayton isn't interested in extending its city limits to the 4042 area.

:iagree: I believe that a large percent of Cleveland area residents chose to live outside the city limits, mainly to avoid an additional tax burden. Therefore, it's my hope that any leaders that emerge from a successful incorporation will remember why they live here and keep the level of taxation as low as possible.

Is the land where the hospital is to be built within Clayton city limits? If not, I see that be annexed. Then someone will want some taxes from the 40/42 Super Wal-Mart.

Cleveland East or East Cleveland sounds like housing projects.

Underground, huh? Where everyone can see them....right, gotcha. What else is buried beneath the area that we could name our town?

Archer's Lodge is a case in point for a unique placename. The town/community has always been known as Archer's Lodge, which I assume has something to do with a local lodge for hunters possibly. If Archer's Lodge is acceptable then Cleveland School is moer than appropriate.

Ok guys, you all might think this is a joke but obviously the petition to get incorporated is very close at hand - do you really want the name of where you live and raise your family to be a joke???? A week from now i will pull from this thread the top 10 names and put it on a poll to be voted on and we will take the first step to being a community of our own. Please remember the names on the list that i posted thanks to Webbie have already been voted down (unfortunately for the natives, the majority of our community were not born and raised here and most of the ones that are pushing for the old names do not still live in our immediate area). So, seriously, are you guys ready to name our community and make it a real place or do you want to be annexed and named Clayton or Garner:confused:

Forgive me if this was already covered, but I missed it... What areas are included in this? Where would the boundaries be?

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question, hope Kaci is still on so she can fill us in on that.

Actually it has been about 3 years since i was on the inner circle for the naming, etc... but what i was led to believe in those days it is pretty much the boundries of Mcgees, Clayton, Smithfield, and Garner. Anything outside of those perimeters was not included. i may be wrong but since we are deadset in the middle of those peritimers, i just assume that is the 4042 area still. Check with the postoffice or the chamber and i am sure they will be able to give you the official answer. Wish i could be more accurate and actually planning on making the more accurate answer an official answer very new in the future.

Then I will consider myself part of the community, if not I am one of those snotty suburbanites.

"4042" will get my vote, I do not consider that a joke name.

    Were the following considered:
    West Johnston
    East Cleveland
    Cleveland Heights
If you can't come up with a name maybe someone should gather up some big $$$ head up to the other Cleveland and buy their name. They may be willing to change their name. I doubt they have a Post Office. Have they ever had a Cleveland High School up there? I doubt it. There certainly was a Cleveland High School in this area as late as the 1950's. Maybe later. Anyone know what was the last graduating high school class of Cleveland High School?

Having driven through our "sister" city in the Western part of the state several years ago, I don't think they would be up for giving up the name. They actually do have their own post office, with a zip code of: 27013. Also their own website at:http://www.clevelandnc.org/

    And the Wiki sez: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland,_North_Carolina

Oh...and if your grass is more than 24 inches high, they consider it a nuisance and will do a drive-by on you and drop off a fine. 8)

BTW, a historical note: Back many moons ago when the incorporation talks had reached a fever pitch, the GCCC at that time came out against it, so they weren't actually driving a move to incorporation. Yes, there was lots of political wrangling going on at that time and some very hard feelings came out as a result.

The GCCC *did* come out after that with the Alternate Name Place survey, which died on the vine when it was discovered that the ANP cannot span zip codes, so has no bearing in the local issue of "who are we?"

I fear the same would happen again as you'll never get everyone to agree on what the appropriate name should be. :boxing:

But, the point is the majority rules, so granted, not everyone is gonna agree, there will be a name chosen and for some it may be the lesser of evils in their minds but we will have a name if we act in time before we become Clayton or Garner.

    Kaci,

Is there anyway to post a proposed area for the community? If I recall, it has to fit certain criteria outside areas already annexed, with some type of buffer. Someone please correct me, if I am wrong.

As for the taxes for this place, they're pretty much a given, in the future. And, I'd think that your voice would carry more weight about the taxation levels and distribution if you aqre communicating with people from here, as opposed to trying to convince Garner or Clayton people that your agenda for this area is the one they should follow.

The 4042 Walmart is no more a sure thing than the one WM was going to build off Rock Creek, although I can see how their market research would lead to the decision to not build there, and to build at 4042.

Actually Carl, the chamber could give you the boundries and i would appreciate it if you got them, during the day when they are open, work is way too demanding right now. i used to have all the info but like i said before it has been a few years and i no longer have it. If you talk to them, please post and let us all know the exact boundries - it should be pretty easy to find since the last vote we had for alcohol sales was based on the 4042 boundries and not inclusive of all Johnston County.

    How about Cleveland Central?

We live in the Cleveland area, in Central NC?? Makes sense to me.

Will do tomorrow. And, for planning purposes, would it be safe to presume that the boundaries for the alcohol vote are still the operative ones for us?
