Well I called All Star - the one that everyone reccommended - and they will not come pick up my trash. They don't like my long dirt drive.
He told me they were not "that Kind of Company". I don't know what that means but I think I should be offended. What kind of trash did the man think I had? LOL

Any how - next suggestion??? Do I take out an add for someone to take it away? I don't want to pay an arm and a leg..... just an arm maybe....

I'm thinking that most of the companies are going to ask that you take the trash bin they supply you with to the end of your driveway.

the drive is very long. why can't they just take the silly truck down there? i don't get it. I can use there cans and such and they have plenty of room to turn around....

My brother use to live beside of a family that lived down a long path and every week he would see someone hope in their car and drive the trash bin down the path. They would put the bin beside the driver's side and hold onto the bin. Pretty inventive and fun to watch when you're bored.

aaaah it's about to tip.... oooh she saved it... ugh here we go.... saved again.

Gee, tHanks Kell-but I may have found someone...A really nice lady from A Plus Waste is going to send someone out to take a look and they are even CHEAPER then all star. If that doesn't pan out I will call your guy. You must have been typing while I was dialing..lol

i am so annoyed that the man on the phone said he wasn't one of "those kinds of companies' What the heck does that mean? He doesn't give any customer service? I called them once before and no one even bothered to call me back. I hate being treated like a second class citizens just because I don't have a big fancy house and a big asphalted drive. guess my money isn't good enough for him.

maybe he just meant they're the kind of company that only picks up from the main road, without meaning to make any sort of comment about you personally

I think they meant the trailer issue and long drive issue.

Did you talk to Tommy? I would speak to him. I have a long drive way too. They come to my house.

I think this has been mentioned but in a different fashion. I have a friend who has an extremely long driveway and then road leading to a cul-de-sac (sp). Anyhow, the trash can has to be at the cul-de-sac so they have a hook to attach the trash can to the back of the car to take it out for pickup and then to bring it back to the house. They are in Clayton city limits.

One time when my daughter was watching several neighbors houses she forgot to take one family's trash out. When we realized it, it was too late. Being a quick thinker I asked her which family was coming back last and which first. Remember this was in our subdivision...she sat in the trunk, held the lid open with one hand and a trash can with the other while I drove her to each house to switch cans. We did finally get the right can to the right house, empty and told both families. They tipped her for going that one extra step or trunk ride....and I told her to never do this herself.

I honestly didn't get the mans name. he had a very, deep, southern voice. I don't think it was anyone in charge though. i was shocked more then anything because they came so hihgly recommended.
just goes to show you how you can catch someone on a bad day. His bad day cost him an account.

One of our friends used to tie his trash can to the back of his truck to take it to end of his paved driveway. Well, one morning his forgot to stop and leave it and he was going down the road (still in the subdivision) driving fast just like he was on way to work when someone flagged him down and told him that he still had his trash can attached.... he was SO embarassed!

I use them. I have never had a problem but I always go to the owner with any questions. Some people can be rude and take their bad day out on others. I would still call and complain to the owner.

I don't know if it would do me any good. And with the other company offering me a 20 or 30 dollar savings per year.... as long as he can do it. I really think there is plently of room for the truck to manuver.

Pep, I have a client with a driveway like yours - they offered to pay a few companies extra to go down their drive, but were told they couldn't take the chance, nor make an exception. Apparently down some dirt roads trucks have gotten stuck either in sand, or in inclimate weather while trying to turn around and they were really in a bind business-wise between waiting for a very expensive tow out and the business they missed while waiting. I wouldn't take it personally - these people live it a really pricey house and they were told No Way Jose!

On a similar note I am fed up with Republic Waste!

Two weeks ago I received a letter stating our pick up day starting the week of Jan 14th (last week) would change from Wednesday to Friday. Ok, they were going to come two days later and no big deal. . .

Friday comes and no pick up - can is full. . I get in at 5:30pm (they have come as late as 5 in the past and as early as 9am) so I try calling the office (number listed for questions on the letter) and get a voice mail --long and detailed --explaining that the re-routing has met a couple snags and at the tone please leave your name and address if you missed your pick-up and they "PROMISED" to have your trash picked up by "Monday 1/21/08" and apologized for any inconvenience. Well - the voice mail went to another voice which asks for an extention ---no ext's on the letter Offers a company directory where you text the persons name you are trying to reach ---oooops, no name on the freaking letter. . .So, I press 0 - which takes me to a recording that says the mailbox is full and goodbye.

No one shows Sat, Sun, - tried calling and still same result - no surprise. Mon comes and I finally get a human who says he's so sorry and takes my name and addy and says someone will be here on Tuesday (the next day) and that the re-routing was tougher than they expected and they have it worked out and they will also be by again on Friday - regular day and we will be back on schedule. . .

Guys, it's Thursday, right? my can and the cans of the few neighbors who use Republic still sit at the street. I am so ticked off that I'm going to call some new companies as soon as I click submit.

    Pepps, Good Luck to you!

So, I just called Waste Management - 800-327-5412

They'll have a can here in 3-5 days - Pick up will begin on Thursday, 1/31

I don't plan on even stressing myself out phoning Republic. I'll just leave the can out there till the one comes from Waste Management - then I'll get some poster board from the dollar store and whip out my Sharpie and in HUGE letters write:

    "Take This Can
    &
    Shove It
    You're Fired ! ! !"
