I am looking for a pediatric doc around the 40/42 area. Any good suggestions?

Who are some of the docs there, Cleo? I'd like to look them up. We've been wanting to make a switch.

I second Garner Peds. When I was looking for a peds office (b/c my oldest is 12), everyone recommended them. I've been very pleased and out of the whole practice have only seen one doc I didn't mesh with well, but he was still nice.

We use Dr Harris at Horizon Family (on 42 right before you get to Clayton) and love them. Switched there from our old pediatrician about 3 years ago. He's a family dr, not just pediatrician though, but he knows his stuff, great personality and won't just throw out a prescription to get you out of his office. Love him!

I know Bernstein is great if your kiddo has allergies, otherwise I don't have a pref. Hedgepeth is great, too - he was the physican at Rex where both of my DDs were born. Brit is good, and Johnson is really sweet. My DDs have been seeing the new doc at the office, Taylor. I really like her, and so do my DDs. I really haven't been disappointed with any of them.

They stopped taking UHC at the first of the year, which is 50% of the reason I changed to BCBS effective Jan 1.

We used to go to Garner Ped's until my oldest child got sick. They only wanted to throw antibiotics at the problem as opposed to either referring us to a specialist or doing a little research. Even when we asked for a referal they were very reluctant. So, if your child stays within the normal realm of common conditions they are fine, but fall outside the box and you are on your own (IMHO).

We switched to Clayton Ped's and have been very happy with them. They work very well in tandem with the specialist we were sent to - as well as have no problems referring you when necessary.

I agree! I am 31 and went there as a child and now my little one goes there too! (so will the new baby when she arrives)!! They are great and have extended hours! The doctors stay around for years there too! Bernstein and Hedgepeth are great and have been there for about 30 years or so!! Also I personally like that they do not send every little thing over for an xray and expose radiation when it is not needed as some places do, and I personally experienced that they are good about not giving antibiotics for everything. Especially in this MRSA world... but I am sorry you had the opposite ce ce.

    Raleigh Peds

We love the Raleigh Peds office in Garner and have taken the little one there since he was born 2 years ago. All the doctors there are great. Drs Johnson, Britt, Sartschev, Hedgepeth, and Hewett are some of our favorites.

I love Garner Peds also. We've seen Drs Britt, Hedgepath, Taylor, Helms & Koscielniak. The doctors are great & the folks working at the front desk are always very kind also. Because I am picky about the doctors my kids see, I swapped Pediatrician practices a few times when I lived in Colorado. I really feel blessed to have found such a good practice so close to home when we moved to North Carolina. I've been taking my kids to the Garner Office of Raleigh Peds for 5 years now and have really been happy with them. When my son was born when we lived in Colorado. He almost died when he was 3 1/2 months old because some slack doctors weren't paying attention to his symptoms. He went 11 days with an intussusception - when it’s not uncommon for children to die within 48 hours. I felt awful because I didn't push the doctors in Colorado to do more when my son was sick. Now I tend to get a little worked up when I don't feel like doctors are doing all they can. I question everything the doctors tell me. Back over the summer, when baby girl was only about 6 weeks old she started crying ... A LOT. She was spitting up all the time & crying morning, noon & night. She was choking on her spit up and I was afraid to lay her flat. I took her to Garner Peds believing she had some type of life threatening condition ... The folks at Garner Peds handled me with kid gloves. They were very understanding, patient & listened to all of my concerns. Even though I was overreacting and acting like a complete nutcase ... they calmed my worries. Baby girl was given medicine for reflux & put on Hypo-Allergic formula (Garner Ped's gave me a coupon for a case of the stuff also :) )Within a few days, baby girl was my happy little sweetheart again. I went back to apologize to Dr. Taylor after that visit and to thank her for being so wonderful. Another thing I like about Garner Peds is that they are willing to work with me on vaccines. Because the Rotashield vaccine caused my son’s intussusception ... I'm a little nervous when it comes to giving vaccines to wither of my kids. The docs at Garner Peds drew up a schedule for baby girl so she could still stay up-to date on her vaccines ... but not ever get multiple vaccines in a single visit. I feel a lot more comfortable with this adjusted vaccine schedule and I really appreciate the way Garner Ped's has been willing to work with me on this issue. Another thing I like about Garner Peds is that when my kids have been sick they have always been able to get us in fairly quickly. When I've called the nurse for advise, I've always received a call back in a short amount of time. I also like the option of taking the kids to Raleigh Peds if they ever get sick over the weekends or holidays. Baby girl ended up catching RSV over the Christmas holidays and as always, the folks at Garner Peds were on the ball and helped her get over the illness quickly. I had a scare a while back when I received a letter saying the practice wasn't going to be able to accept Cigna insurance anymore. Luckily they worked out whatever issues they were having with Cigna because I was really worried that I was not ever going to find another practice as good as they are. Because I dealt with so many bad pediatricians in Colorado, I've really been appreciative of how WONDERFUL this practice has been.

I'd have to agree with Garner Pediatric.
You should also consider asking the question of which hospitals they have privilege to admit patients to, this will also be a factor with your insurance company. The further out from Raleigh you get, the greater your chance these doctors only go to hospitals such as Johnston Memorial etc..

After 6 years (since birth of my son) at Clayton Pediatrics I recently switched him to Horizon. My husband and I were already going to Horizon. I just got really tired of HUGE waiting times and poor care at Clayton Pediatrics. I stuck with them for many years but just couldn't deal with it anymore.
