I was planning to attend the 29th but just now realized I have a meeting in Raleigh at 5pm. How long do these things generally last?

That can vary, but it could easily be a couple of hours or more if many members of the public wish to speak. I'm hoping for a good turnout this time. If we don't show up at these meetings, we've got no basis to complain about the results - or lack thereof.

The meeting lasted about an hour. Only 9 people attended and 2 of those were with the press.

Can you believe that? Let's try and do better at the next one. I don't want to read in the paper another story about how nobody bothered to show up.

Yes. The first one was better attended yet went nowhere. No doubt that makes it rather hard to keep attending to just run around in circles!

Seems like this would have remained a sticky until after next weeks meeting.

It's listed in the Local Calendar also, but we have "re-stuck" it based on requests. 8)

I attended the meeting, spoke and asked questions. There were around 30 or so people in attendance some of which were reporters and others representing developers. It was a varied crowd of concerned citizens who lived from 40/42 to the eastern part. The crowd was vocal and not pleased with responses. Cookie Pope was not in attendance so Wade Stewart Chaired the meeting. By the time I left his face was puffed up and he seemed irritated.

I guess part of the irritation grew from the County Commissioners continuing to push the blame on other parts of government. We all spoke about our roads, schools and the need for planning with developments. I guess the frustration came out when Mr. Stewart talked about the egg and the chicken. He spoke about this in reference to building schools and subdivisions and the timing of roads, water and traffic lights. He stated that the DOT will not look at something unless the problem has already happened, whereupon someone asked "Does that mean we need more people to die on some of our roads before anything is done?" I happened to bring up that Riverwood seemed to be able to get roads and traffic lights right away but East Clayton Elementary is still waiting. I also mentioned that we are seeing more and more CC Magnum trucks working in our area when they did not used to be and it seems that the lobbyist are alive and working fine in our County. It seemed that the citizens were in agreement that we need a moratorium on building until roads, traffic lights, water, etc. is in place. We told them that we certainly want our area to grow but think that the planning just could no longer be called planning because anyone could ride around our area and see what is needed.

I left after an hour and a half so I am unsure what happened at the end. I certainly thank them for holding the meetings but hope in the future they have brighter and more knowledgeable news for us.

Maybe someone who stayed until the end can finish up. I was disappointed in the Commissioners and the attendance.

thanks grace. sounds like same old, same old.

i suppose the commissioners tried to appease the public with these meetings. of course not a whole lot of public showed up ever nor did the commissioners seem to have or want answers.
