I did a search and did not find any previous threads on this - so starting a new one.... I am trying to find some information in regards to any private schools in the area. We checked out Lighthouse Academy, which appears to be a nice school, but not the right fit. Looking for people that may have some personal experiences with the school and what not. Thank you for any information that you can provide.
The only private Christian schools that I know of that are relatively close are -- Johnston Christian Academy in Smithfield Wake Christian Academy off 401 in Garner Cape Fear Christian Academy in Erwin(?) There is a HUGE need for a traditional Christian school in this area. Anyone from C3 reading... hint hint.
I know, I thought that I had heard C3 had a school in their future growth plans. That would be nice to have an alternative close to home. I found info on the 1st two - but didn't know about the one in Erwin... Thanks.
I had one of my daughters goto CFCA for 3 years. It is a good school and feel that she got a better education there than public school. But as with any private school do your homework on the school first. We had to move her to public school because it got way too expensive. Not real sure about other private schools but CFCA seemed to revolve more around sports.
neuse charter school in selma is run like a private, but doesn't cost you anything to go there... www.neusecharterschool.org
DB, Thanks for that link. I did not know we had this and will review the website. I have a few friends who home school and I wonder if they know about this. Will check. Once again, thank you so much, Grace
My daughter is starting Wake Christian this year (kindergarten)! I was really impressed with the school, staff and the environment when I did the tour! The school is not new so you can not expect modern classrooms and so on, but they stay in the 93 - 95% above the state average and their avg teacher tenure is 14 years! Sorry that I can not help out with the others but I did feel this school with be a true blessing! Application was sent 2 weeks ago so now we are just waiting for the interview and my daughters testing - and hopefully we are in!!!
K-12 private school? Does anyone know anything about Johnston County Christian Academy? Weve only been here a month and although my 3rd grader is working well ahead of what they were doing in Albuquerque, my high school freshman is doing stuff she did in 7th and 8th grade in Albuquerque. Weird. But she did come from a private school( similar to Ravenscroft). We will probably have to find a private school here for her as well but would like to stay closer to this area.
my ncs kindergartener is doing alot of what second grader's at our friends' wake county public schools are doing. plans are to add a grade per year until ncs is a k thru 8....adding 6th next year
Yes! All 4 of her classes are honors. I called her counselor yesterday to ask about any gifted program or the like and she said her honors classes ARE the gifted program. I also asked if she could test out of these classes and move up a grade and she said, no, that they are required for graduation. Does that sound right?
What really upsets me is that when we deicded to move from Abq., where she loved her private school and had worked really hard to be accepted, we promised her that if the public HS wasnt cutting it, we would explore the option and find her something else. But there doesnt seem to BE anything else. Also her counselor said that evern the private schools follow the same cirriculum and she wouldnt be any more challenged.
Honors courses are not required for graduation, but the subjects she taking probably are. Meaning students have to have a certain amount of credits of science/math/english/foreign language etc. But it might be something you need to look into further, actually go out and talk with them. Which HS is she going to? Not that it matters, all JC schools have the same requirements, just curious.
There are online high schools, Don't know anything about them, but know one girl who did that (in Wake county) cause she was tired of all the bs that went on in class. Of course then she'd miss out on the activities part of school.....
Shes at Clayton HS, and ,yes, the counselor meant that her subjects were required for graduation. I always though you could test out of classes and receive credit if you knew the material. Thats what I did in HS, of course it was like a hundred years ago:lol:
What about Middle College? My daughter is a Sophomore and is taking a college course, which allows her to take those credits with her upon graduating high school. I have a friend whose daughter goes to West Johnston and she is attending college. She is taking so many courses as a senior in high school that she is unable to qualify for the high school swim team. We have alternatives and should use them, if they apply. Grace
I did just a quick Google and found this article: http://www.imagesjohnstoncounty.com...gh_School_Students_To_Earn_College_Credit.php It does state for 11th and 12th grades but those students in 9th and 10th who qualify as AIG and/or TIP can test out and get in higher courses in high school so that when getting to 11th grade they can attend Middle College. Although I am speaking about this it does not mean that I endorse a student graduating from high school early. I say this because I think that teens need to understand the whole social part also. This program gives them the opportunity to do both. If you need anything else just let me know. We are all wrapped up in this stuff and it does get a little confusing to people sometime. Grace
this is great info I can ask the school about. Thanks so much. I will check out that link. I understand what you mean about graduating early. I graduated at 16 in new Mexico. I went to asmall Catholic school that had the ability to accelerate my pace without all the red tape. There are both advantages and disadvantages. However, I think if the child is mature and grounded, as well as supervised and supportive, they can probably handle it. The biggest enemy right now for my daughter is boredom in school. This can lead to a whole other set of issues.
