http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,327070,00.html Thought this was interesting as a blue-eyed person, apparently we are mutants! That explains a lot!
I'm blue eyed as well. Makes sense since my Father's people are from European decent and then my Mom is from Native American. That makes me a blue eyed, dark haired girl who can get one hell of a tan. LOL:lol:
My DH is blue-eyed, fair, and blonde. So are both of our daughters. I would have thought one might take after him, but both of them look like little mini DH's!
A few thoughts... The article states that all blue-eyed people share a common ancestor. Does that mean that brown-eyed people don't? How about people with one blue and one green eye? My eyes are hazel, which means they're blue if I wear a blue shirt. Does that mean I'm part of the collective depending on what I'm wearing? Finally, my Mom had her own thoughts about brown-eyed people being full of, well it's brown, you figure it out.
That is really interesting I have Cherokee Indian on my moms side, Scottish on my dads I have blue eyes, brown hair, and my husband gets really jealous in the summer, because I do not burn, but I get really dark.
Not sure but you and my daughter may be related to; Hilary, Janet Reno, Gloria Steinem, Jane Fonda, Angela Davis...I am joking, but that was funny. Grace
Wow...I have blue eyes and my natural hair color is a dark brown. Both kids have blue eyes, sons hair almost black. Ex had blue eyes and black hair. My dad is Polish and my mom, well she says she is a Heinz 57.
That is true. (or possibly green or hazel, but not brown). Same if both parents are blond(e). Remember Mendel's peas in H.S. biology? The genes for blue eyes, blond hair, light skin, and I think straight hair are recessive. The genes for brown eyes, dark hair, dark skin and curly hair are dominant. You get a pair of genes for each feature, one from each parent. If you have one gene for brown eyes and one for blue, your eyes will be brown - the dominant gene. Obviously, if both are for the same color, then your eyes will be that color. So if you have brown eyes, it's possible you also carry the recessive gene for blue eyes. If your mate also has brown eyes and a recessive gene for blue eyes, you could have a blue-eyed child. But if you both have blue eyes, then neither of you could pass on a gene for brown eyes because you don't have it.
Note that light skin and blonde hair are also mutations! I think the "news" part about the common ancestor is that they only have to go back 6,000 to 10,000 years to find him/her. But statistically, you don't have to go back nearly that far to find common ancestors for large groups of people. For example, statistically, everyone of western European ancestry is descended from Charlemagne - and from everybody else who lived in western Europe in the 8th century who had descendants.
LOL, I'm the same, but the only blue eye in my family, and I get a killer tan as well. Dark hair too. My daughter is blue eye too. Sheri
Sheri, My daughter has blue eyes, blonde hair and gets as brown as my coffee table in the den. She uses sunscreen 30 but with her skin and her hair getting lighter in the summer the boys/men sometimes can be a bit much. I have actually told "men" who were looking and/or talking to her (a mother can tell) her age when I approach and they back off. Horney males. A friend of mine, who is a male, told us they think about it every 15 to 30 seconds. I say...just think about it somewhere else other than around my daughter. I think they are talking to her to get to me..........just a joke everyone. Grace
