We've been here a month now and are settled in enough to want to DO something! We're all going mad in the house all w/e. Give me some suggestions on something fun to do, or even better, maybe a day trip. The state is beautiful and Im sure there are many great places to visit.
Try this site - http://www.trails.com/toptrails.asp?area=14466 Also - there's lots of museums downtown Raleigh and there's the Zoo in Asheville, just depends on what you're looking for.
I love the circus...havent been in years! Thanks. Will have to leave my older daughter behind though....she'll protest the abuse of the animals:lol: We havent even been able to eat KFC since those videos were made public a couple years ago of the chicken abuse!
Fort Fisher, there is an aquarium and a civil war battlefield/museum right there. Hop on 40E, you can't miss it. Bentonville Battlefield/Harper House - a civil war battlefield and a home that was used as a hospital during the battle. This is right down the road, near Four Oaks/Benson. www.carolinaparent.com http://trianglekidsdirectory.com/
I agree with all of those ideas. Plus you could go down to Ft. Fisher and go to the Aquarium. You could do that in a day. They have a new museum downtown thats hands on, (Marbles) but I think it's for younger ones. I doubt your 15 yo would get into it, lol. There is always something going on out at the fairgrounds, flea market and some kinda show..... We also have alot of historial battlefields and homes that are very intresting to go see.
The Asheboro zoo is awesome, I vote for that, especially if your daughter likes animals. It's really big though, so be prepared to do plenty of walking! And if you'd like to check out the Carolina mountains, I know where you can get a great deal on a cabin for rent...
Oooooo...are there really mountains here? Just kidding...just not the Rockies we're used too. But seriously, about the cabin, that is something we will DEFINATELY look into this summer. We had some mountain propery outside of Albuquerque and we would camp a lot. Thats something I will miss alot. One more question....one post said the zoo was in Asheville, then one said Asheford...which is it?
Lots of history around here. The Tobacco Museum is in Durham, along with the Duke Homestead. Cool stuff (and free!)
Sorry! It's Asheboro (I always get those 2 mixed up!) it is about 2-3 hrs away maybe? Been a long time since I went...
Asheboro is where the zoo is and it's about 1 1/2 hours away. good day trip. ( I must drive faster than Bandmom, hehehhe) Asheville is about 3 hours or so away, thats the mountains and where the Biltmore house is at. Nice town. Blowing Rock is an awesome little town in the mountains and surrounded by alot to go visit!
And worth the drive, for a few bucks more go ahead and get a membership that can also be used at Fort Fisher and other zoos/aquariums nationwide. BTW, it is actually a few bucks cheaper to purchase the membership at Fort Fisher, about 55 bucks for a family per year.
