Here's a link to the IRS FAQ about the stimulus package. You may have heard that the package includes payments to recipients of Social Security and Veterans benefits and wondered, as I have, how they will handle that. Here's the answer: I would hope the VA and AARP will provide volunteer taxpayer assistance for those people who do not otherwise need to file. If I hear of anything like that, I will certainly post it here, and I know all of you will do the same. That link above answers most questions people have asked about the plan, so if you still have questions, check it out!
My question is, if I'm a stay at home mom, but my hubby files and we're a couple, do we get the $1200 as a married couple, or the $600 as him being one person who files?
A married couple filing a joint return will be eligible for up to $1200 plus $300 per child, and it doesn't matter which one earned the income. When you sign a joint return, both parties are liable for the tax shown on that return, and for any errors and omissions on the return. If only one person earns the income, the best way to file is married filing jointly, in terms of tax rate and available tax credits, so I would assume that's the way you filed. If he files separately (unlikely) and you do not file, then he would get $600 and you would not get any.
I have been a stay at home mom for years and we always file a joint return. You get a better tax break that way.
yeah...I just wanted her to know that even without the stimulus package she should be filing a joint return to get the most tax breaks. Tax season reminds you why it is good to have kids and be married... :hurray:
My husband and I are separated so I already filed Married filing Separate and I have the children on my return because they are with me. So here's my question, will they send my check separate from his or will they treat us as a couple since we are legally married??? Thanks for your help!
My mom I want to tell my mom about this but want to make sure first. She is 69 and on Social Security and Disability. She has not filed taxes in quite some time. Does she have to file a federal return this year to get this check that government is provideing to stimulate the economy. She could sure use it with the surgery she is having next month and for a flight that she will be making to Canada to visit her terminally ill (Cancer) brother. Please PM me with information. She cannot afford to pay a lot to file taxes though. I wonder if someone here could do it cheap or at a discount and I can pay for it!! Thanks for the information!
Y'all do realize that these stimulus checks are being paid for by a $150,000,000,000 loan from Red China? You will spend them on goods probably from China so who really benefits? Why not just cut your taxes and give you your own money back? Oh that's right.....that would make sense!
It does make sence?? The money will pass through the hands of some "imports broker" who made a donation to politicians who now make the decisions on the distribution of our collected tax money. And he or she will then forward the money to an offshore account in the Caymans somewhere. And ironically more than 80% of Americans believe this to be true yet won't take the time or effort involved to stop it because of an infectuous "I Don't GAF" attitude. Or, our fearless leaders great exscuse of security fear has people second guessing wether to rock the boat. Either way, it makes sence to those who profit. To the majority, it's just rewards for effort ventured.
