I need to find someone who can make creatively yummy cakes and who won't be super pricy! I usually get my cakes made and bring them up here from my "CAKE LADY" in Winterville, NC. I was hoping there would be someone around here who makes delicious cakes and is very talented with the decorating area. The person who I normally use, has the best tasting cakes I've ever had. I think she uses homemade butter cream icing? I'm not sure, but her cakes are adorable. They are usually 3D and not just a flat sheet cake. This year my daughter is turning 4 and we are either going to do a Disney Princess Theme or Barbie Island Princess Theme. Her birthday is next month, so I wanted to go ahead and start looking for someone! Thanks Again! Christie
Sorry I can't be of much help on finding you a "cake lady", but I wanted to let you in on a little tradition I started with my oldest when she was about 4 or 5. We make our own cakes. Every year she'll usually pick out what she wants, we go online for ideas, etc. And we make it. Now I'm not the best baker, and they don't always look professional, but we make them together, and she loves it! You can find step by step instructions on the web for just about any cake, and it's usually very simple. We've made fish, treasure chests, butterflies, swimming pools, etc... Something to think about.......
PM Forever Faithful because she just had one made for her son...shipping off to basic training. I don't know who made it. See picture below: Grace
We make our own, too. My girls enjoying making the cake as much as eating it. http://familyfun.go.com/ has a lot of neat and easy to make cake ideas.
This best creative cake I ever made for my daughter (about 5-6 yrs old) was a 'sleep over cake' Make a sheet cake, frost one end of the cake, covereing about 3-4", lay 4-5 twinkies in a row on this end of the cake, using a different color- ice the rest of the cake (going over the twinkies, but leaving about 1" un-iced which will be faces) use gel frosting to draw faces on each twinkie, then use frosting to make hair (different colors to make each twinkie girl a little different or give them different 'hair' styles), use fruit roll ups to go across the cake, right under their faces (to look like the top of the bedspread) and around the bottom edge of the cake (to look like a dust ruffle), and sprinkles or something to decorate top of cake (bed spread) .....etc hope you get the idea. We did that for her first sleepover party - they loved the cake!
Being that I am a cake decorator, I found making one with your child like everyone else said will be more fun then buying one..I did valentine cookies shaped like a heart with a stick (like a lollypop) for the kids in her class room and each one was decorated. Each cookie also had each childs name on them..she was very pleased with them and even though I spent alot of time on them it was well worth the time to see her smile. Sheri
While I can appreciate the sentiment behind making the cake together and all that, the OP was asking about who she could have make one for her. Maybe there are time constraints involved! 8) Let's not give her a guilt trip!
I wasn't trying to give her a guilt trip, just some idea's. I do understand time constraints when I work 7 days a week most weeks, so I take times like this with my daughter to heart. Sheri
I know of a great little bakery in the area, I dont if I should post the name but if you would like to know send me a PM
Post the name and address. That is what these forums are for. But if you are the owner make sure you have thick skin.
There is a lady that works at cleveland florist that makes wonderful cakes as a hobby. If you call up there they will more than likely give you her name and number.
I don't have her card with me here at the office but we've been very satisfied with Pee Wee's Cake Creations. She has a "bakery" in a seperate building behind her house. She lives just off of Cornwallis/White Oak in ( I think the development is ) Austin Manor or something like that. She is not far from the intersection of 42 and Cornwallis. Anyway, she does a GREAT job and can decorate and fit most any theme! If no one comes through with her number, I'll try to look for her card when I get home.
No I am not the owner but I like their goodies. It is the Desserted Bakery at 40/42 across from Lowe's.
