:shock::shock: I'd probably be in jail if I caught my daughter doing that. :?

You can still see their websites if you go through your child's website. When going through your child's they will show up as a friend and most of the time they have already been accepted, which means the Private setting is off to that person.

Learned that one a long time ago. They can set it to Private and still have 300 friends, some of whom they do not know, as long they accept them as a friend.

P.S. Setup your own website with hobbies similar to some of them and ask to be a friend and see how many accept you without knowing you. You will be surprised.

Didn't we have a thread here a while back discussing and perusing local teen myspace pages? And whatever happened to that "christian" nightclub?

Camera phones and digital cameras. It only takes a second and the picture is on the internet. What they think is cute, is really sexy to others sometimes. Your day will come.

DS and I will be having long chats about inappropriate behavoir, online and otherwise. Can I control his every move, especially as he gets older? Of course not. But I can certainly have strong consequences for such behavoir. I'm thinking doors removed from bedrooms, you name it. As someone else stated, there is no expectation of privacy as long as I am paying for the roof over his head. 8)

I do go to my child's page then go to her friend's pages - but they're still set to private?

You have to be logged in under your child's account, and your child has to be one of the kid's "friends" for you to be able to look at their private page.

Then your child has not been accepted as friend on the other end. Your child has the person as friend on their end but it does not go other way unless that kid wants it too.

After you teaching me what this means on this Forum I for certain would want to know. And especially if someone else was talking to my kid about it.

I'm so glad I don't have kids. They really wouldn't be able to do anything until they are 30. Maybe 40. Depends on my mood.

    Kids nowadays :ack::ack::ack:

    HG,

That is how my daughter feels. Sometimes she states that I smother her. I tell her that with the internet, camera phones, etc. I am just being a parent and will always be a parent for as long as I am alive. She asked me when I will stop with the software monitoring and I told her that I would do that when she graduates from college, gets a job and holds it for at least a year. And that job must pay all of her expenses.

so true, and just as realistic as the list.

most of those acronyms are bull****, TBH. i mean, if you see them, sure i might be wrong... but i've never seen them when i was in that age group.

one of the few exceptions being ASL in its many forms.

    rofl@NALOPTK. so dumb.

What panic attack?? I'm just saying I will be watching DS, CLOSELY. For the same reasons he doesn't spend the night at other peoples house I don't know WELL and DH goes on all Scouting trips, etc. Because you just NEVER know. There are potenially perverts everywhere and it's my job as a parent to be vigilent. I am just trying to decide if there are more of them now, or if we just hear about them more. :?

I think its both. We have more people now and this type of behavior is in some ways 'more acceptable' now (among their perverted peers with the internet). Also it is reported more now than in the past by victims and the media.

Ooooh... so those acronyms did not exist when nevilock was a teenager, so they MUST be false. Just go ahead and change your sn to Comic Book Guy already, you might as well - you sound just like him. ;)
