I need to get a tutor for my child – 4th grade Math. He is having a really hard time and I’m just not good at helping/explaining. If anyone knows of someone that could tutor 4th grade Math I’d really appreciate the help. Does not necessarily need to be a teacher – a high school student is fine with me as well. I just need to get some help for him.
Check with his school some teachers do tutoring before and after school. My son was in it in 4th and 5th.
Thanks for the info,,,,didn't realize schools offered tutoring. Wonder why the teacher hasn't recommended that......I've emailed her so waiting for a reply.
yes, funny how they don't put that out there. But they do. They have 'in school-during school' resources. I found out about them a little late too. Just know its normal for them boys to struggle a bit. Heck I couldn't explain it to them either.
They have tried what they call "remediation" with him during school but she's never mentioned anything about after school. So,,,,I'll just ask her.
is the remediation not helping? I would ask her who is doing it? how long? do they think he is getting it? I have found that if you ask lots of questions, it helps too. Keeps them on their toes. Iam not sure if he rides the bus or what, but mine do ride the bus, and they utilize 'bus wait time' to spend with the Math teacher when they don't understand stuff they go over in class, and she's glad to help. Most are. Just have to ask. Let her know your frustrations. What school is your son in?
He goes to Benson Elementary. Other teachers were helping with remediation....it was in a group. The remediation didn't help,,,,he said he thought he understood but when it comes to testing he fails. I've told him it's OK if he doesn't understand to ask,,,not to feel bad about asking. He does ride the bus but I don't think there's any wait time. I'm hoping if I get something worked out after school - - one on one - - it will help.
continue to be the 'squeaky wheel' on your son's behalf, with his teacher, and you will get results. I have a friend whose son doesn't test well either, and he has to be pulled out of the class for that, and put in a small group, so that may be an option too. Don't give up. It will all work out.
My son went to Wilsons Mills He was tutored by his teachers it was a volunteer basis. It was also other kids too. They didn't have one on one mainly because the teachers were on their own time. Even so it helped him and he passed with flying colors. I hope you get him in tutoring I have found it invaluable.
My 4th grader goes to Riverdell. They offered math tutoring every Thursday from 3:15pm to 4:30pm. It's helping him. His school tested all students on their reading and math skills, then they determined who needs help and offer tutor session (required). Check with your school's principle and see if she or he can help you. Don't think about taking your kid to expensive tutoring service - it's not worth $$$.
