My hubby got a ticket in the mail through Cary's red light cameras. He didn't run the red light, but there was a Stop Here On Red sign, so he stopped there and then turned right on red. Does anyone know the laws on this? I always just thought you had to stop there, but that didn't mean you couldn't turn right on red?

I think the same thing as you. Stop, then proceed to the right.

Did there happen to be a No Turn on Red sign? That would be my only thought. :?

According to the 3 pictures they sent, there was no NO TURN ON RIGHT sign. I don't think this is legit, but I'd like to know for sure.

Could there have been a no turn on red sign above the stoplight at that intersection or did he roll through the stop, not truely come to a complete stop on red? So easy to do, done it myself and got a ticket, my car was barely moving but I was not a COMPLETE stop so therefore the ticket. Was it the one at Walnut St. by the Homedepot?

there's definitely not one over the stoplight, you can see that very clearly in photo. I do not know if maybe he rolled, although in the photo he looks stopped. I don't know where he was, it was during working hours. probably not by homedepot though, i think his jobs are over by preston (not sure though) why? is that a common place people get tickets?

kinda off subject, and I am just curious, you open your husband's mail?

Forget about what the picture shows. The picture doesn't show the whole area. Go to the intersection and see for yourself if there is a "No Right On Red" sign.

ditto that - and if he's on a truck, tell him to keep the tailgate down ;)

Actually, the truck was a work truck, so that mail came to the office and I don't normally open the mail there. But I did start working p/t at the office last month, so sometimes I do, yes. And I open every piece of mail that comes to the house, no matter if it's his or mine. So to answer your question, yes I do open his mail!

Clif - if we go there, and there is not a NO RIGHT ON RED sign, does that mean he shouldn't have gotten the ticket? Meaning, if he did come to a complete stop, and then turned, without that sign there, is that ok? I just want to know the law.

I am neither a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV (and, no, I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night), however since I have seen several "No Right On Red" signs and not a single "Right On Red OK" it would lean toward the belief that the law says that right turn on right (when safe) is legal unless otherwise posted.

Clif - that's the same thing I thought. I will definitely mention to him to check out the intersection before paying any fines...

Go there and take a picture - hurry before they put up a "no R on red" sign :?

    That's BS in my opinion

    I got a red-light ticket...

I got a ticket in the mail for running a red light at a shopping center off of 64 Business. I was totally guilty, knew I was doing it, didn't realize the cameras were being used in this area and saw flashes going off behind me.

Not only did I get a ticket in the mail, on the ticket it has a link where you can pay via the web. While on that site, you can watch a video of you going through the light.

So it might be good to check the video to see if your husband came to a complete stop before challenging it.

These red light cameras are a HUGE deal in Albuq. There are more than 20 of them and theyre always in the news. This right turn on red thing is always an issue..tell him to fight the ticket...he will win.

(Not picking on you BUFF) - but I see people 'roll thru' stop signs ALL THE TIME around here! I don't think people realize how many pts that offense carries (its as much as running a stop light or passing a stopped school bus). The worst place that I see is people turning left from Ral rd onto Cleve sch rd. I got rear-ended there because the person behind me assumed I wasn't going to stop - and he wasn't paying attention, plowed right into the back of me! And yes, he got a ticket!

Why would I suggest anything about New York City? DMJmom stated specifically that the town in question was Cary. It would be completely stupid to reply to a question about Cary laws with a reference to New York City, don't you think?
