Ok. At my job, my positon has now required ALOT more paperwork per appointment, and ALOT more time spent in the appointment. Not only that, but there is a TON of follow up needing done from these appointments and our boss wants to put even MORE people on the books to come in........But NO OVERTIME.....Oh NO....can't have it and if we work it, we've been told that it will not be paid to us unless it has been PRE-approved. How can you PRE approve anything if you don't know what's going to happen????? Not only that but we get no scheduled lunch hour either. If ya get one, ya get one. If not, oh well. Several of us have tried to explain how this new system, implemented by people who aren't even in our department doing our jobs, to our boss but he is not listening. I feel like he thinks we are trying to get out of doing work. We are getting more people calling and complaining that we don't call them back but how can we if we can't get out from under appointments?????????? I plan to write all the issues down and going to him after he gets back from vacation and trying again. What should I do if it doesn't work???????
Do you have an HR dept? You are required by law to get so many breaks and a lunch depending on the # of hours worked. Companies can get into BIG legal trouble for not following the rules. You may want to do some research on that to go along with your documentation.
Slow down a minute before you get someone in trouble and check the laws. The last time I looked into it NC still did not have laws saying you had to give anyone a lunch or any other kind of break. I don't agree with it but that is the way it is.
http://www.nclabor.com/wh/fact sheets/breaks.htm Fine, I stand corrected. I worked in HR in TN and the laws are apparently different here. That being said, I think this company is playing with fire not allowing lunches. She asked for OPINIONS by the way, this is mine. 8)
Sorry if you consider that as an opinion. I was just trying to help someone keep from getting in trouble. Like I had said I don't agree with it but what can you do.
The red part is MY OPINION. I already said you were right smarty britches. 8) I have no problem admitting when I am wrong. 8)
Yep, that's my advice. Life is too short to work a job you don't like, when you can have a career you love.
Well, I've been here since 1992. Seen alot.........ALOT. Now that the laws have changed it has changed the course of the runnig of the firm. And while I see my boss's point about getting clients in, in, in, I also see us getting slapped with a bar grievance for not doing things in a timely manner. If you cannot already tell, I work in a law firm.....I know, I know. You'd think they'd be in tune with the labor board and all that. But this place has always run by the hair of the head at times. We do awesome work here and are the number one firm in our business, but I don't think a firm should burn out it's staff in the process either.
Ick...sounds like the old addage....doctors are their own worse patients..... lawyers are the worse at abiding by the laws...(at least in the case POSSIBLE labor laws in NC) Sorry but I really don't have any other advice for you other than looking elsewhere, I work with a lot of law firms and I know there are plenty out there looking for qualified staff.
