Oh, and busing. Don't forget the busing. You might think your child will go to Cary High but in reality they will go far, far away.
And you might be lucky enough to have two children going to two different schools. One year round and one traditional. I have someone at work who is going through this now....can you imagine??
you've got to be kidding. creech road elementary is better than west clayton? in what bizarro universe with purple sky is that?
Oh the schools aren't actually better, but I'd rather the property taxes go up in Wake County than in Johnston County.
New member here Hello all, I am a new member as my family will be moving to Johnston county in the near future. Would anyone know anything about Dixon Road Elementary? I understand it is a newer school but hope someone here could tell me about their experience with it, negative and positive. Also, are there any summer camp options in that area? Thanks again! Mary Beth
Wouldn't bank on having the same schools year after year. With all the growth it WILL change. I can state this as FACT w/ my kids. My poor 6th grade son has been to 6 different elementary schools and that is NOT counting hte homeschooling going on right now. My kids have attended...Cooper(stinks!), Riverwood, Riverdell, Polenta, Cleveland, and Westview elementary schools. I had to pull my kids out of middle school this year. I have spoken to many, many other parents of middle schoolers at Cleveland Middle who've done the same or would like to. I would never recommend Cleveland Middle to anyone moving here. Westview Elementary and Polenta were the two schools that stood out for us. The principal at Westview is definitely involved w/ the students. I see him in classrooms. He's aware and doesn't stay in the office all day. He knows what's going on in his school and I like that. They are going to be builing a new high school around here. So, if you move here, you honestly can't say for sure your kids will stay in the same school. Good luck in whatever you decide. It is so tough nowadays. Again, these are MY opinions based on MY experiences w/ MY kids. Your experiences will vary. Good luck. Stephanie--mom to 7
thanks stephanie -- I realize that the situation will change over time -- with the growth in the area -- I appreciate your input on the middle schools -- my older son -- will be going into 7th grade and I am really concerned about how'll handle the transition --- he might be eligible for the academically gifted program so interested in anyone's experience in that. Wow -- 7 children - that's great -- I can just about handle my two -- but they are sooo different. My little one will be starting kindergarten this year so it'll be all new for him in the south -- that will be nice. thanks again for your post
When my daughter started elem, I had moved into JC. I lied and tried to keep her in WC schools. A so called friend of mine ratted me out and I had to put her into JC schools. I was so mad. After she had been in JC for a while I discovered they were better schools. She graduated with honors. Thru the years I have heard some bad things about WC and I am glad I was busted.
soulshine..did you catch the part about trying to keep others out of Johnston County? I'll tell anyone that the schools in JC are awful if it means they move somewhere else. I'm afraid with continued growth in this county that soon we'll be just like Wake with all the reassignments, busing, etc.
