so, if you claim your 17 yr old and 22 yr old daughters and your daughter's Lifeline college tuition on your taxes, will they still get a rebate if they filed their own taxes and made enough salary to qualify?

I thought that you wouldn't get a rebate for anyone over 18 on your taxes. It's children under 18 from what I read.

I would think the 22 yo would be able to get her own if she files her own taxes and qualifies. That brings up another ? though, how can 1 person be on two sets of taxes?

    Thanks!

It doesn't say anything about a cap on the amount. So, since we have 4 kids under 18, we can expect 600 for us and 300 per child making our total $1800.00 Is that correct. I really hope it is not capped at the 1200.00 I bet Stephanie does too  Seven kids - she will rack up.

Go ahead and enjoy your checks now! Don't complain next year when you do not get as big of a refund. In essence you are not withholding as much this year. Give thanks your government because the economy is contracting, inflation is rising and the dollar's value is falling off a cliff. One day maybe the government will actually reduce spending!

And to think as little as 100 years ago people working would have been screaming if this was proposed. People get excited because the government is giving you an advanced return of the money you are paying them through withholding............ Now back to grazing little sheep.

There is only one personal exemption per person. If you claim your child as a dependent on your tax return, then they do not get to take a personal exemption on their own tax return. Also, people who are claimed as a dependent on another person's tax return will not get the stimulus payment. The IRS does match up those Social Security numbers.

Oh, got it now. I was wondering how the parents could claim someone on their taxes and then that person could file taxes, they just have to file 0.
