Faced with a halting economy and a small but determined band of community opponents, Wal-Mart has shelved plans to build a 206,000-square-foot Supercenter in Knightdale, the town's mayor said today.

    ----------------

Already one in Zebulon. Already one in Clayton. Got one in Garner. Don't NEED or WANT one at 40-42

After approval by the Raleigh City council, Wal mart has also backed out on building a new one in SE Raleigh.

I've been telling you folks... I'LL BELIEVE IT WHEN THEY OPEN THE DOORS! :)

We can only hope that Wal Mart backs out cuz Jo Co residents and government did not stop them.

I agree, Target anyday. Quality is alot better.

Now it seems like there is a Walmart on every corner.

I don't want either. Walmart is in Clayton, and Target is a few miles up at White Oak.

  10. I do not have any statistics but I seam to notice that there are a lot more reports of crimes in a Wal-mart parking lot. Shootings, stabbing, robberies

are you answering for you or for the person i asked?

i don't really care where in florida this person is from, i was making a vague allusion to psl's history of problems with racists. i thought the statement about walmart parking lots was a little odd, that's all...could be taken the wrong way, you know. remember how this place blew up when the mayor of selma used an off-color remark?

i dont think they can afford NOT to build since they already purchased the property (ive heard between 8-10 million c-notes!) who else can afford to sit on that much money?!

Number one, who says they have purchased the property? Unless you have it from the horse's mouth (the Barefoots),I've seen no indication that they have. I've already had to explain Offers to Purchase and Options to Buy on another thread.

Number two, they DID purchase the property in SouthEast Raleigh (according to an article in the N&O) and are choosing not to build at this time.

What I'm saying is, even if they have purchased the property, which I don't think they have, Wal-Mart can certainly afford to hold it , and are doing so at another location.

Depends on who you hear it from as to how much truth there is to it. You should always consider the source!
