ok, I've never owned a MALE cat before so I'm not sure if this is a "male cat" thing or a Manx characteristic so I need some help. I'm trying to introduce a new kitty (6 months) to the family & Sassy and he is making this clicking noise. He doesn't growl or hiss, but just makes this clicking noise with his mouth. Anyone know what this is? Is it a sign of aggression, curiosity or friendly? HELP! :allears::allears: Thanks!
If it were agression I'm sure there would be more than a "clicking" noise. Have you noticed that when this is going on does the hair stand up on either cat? Are the tails more fluffy than normal? Craig
His is not, but Sassy's tail is FLUFFY! She's starting to come around, but geesh...this is a process!
But is it more so than normal? As an example we have one cat that when his tail poofs out it looks like he licked an electrical socket. and it usually happens when he is in or near another certain cat that he wants to pick a fight with and loses every time he does. Craig
The only time I've heard that clicking noise is when cats are watching birds or small animals out the window. The cats are trying to be real still (like they are preparing to stalk/pounce) but they seem to be struggling to contain their excitement. It takes me a month or two to introduce a new adult cat to the resident cats. First I put the new cat in a room that has a door with a bottom gap. And all the cats do the paws-under-the-door thing. After a week or so, assuming there is no hissing or growling, I open the door and in the doorway I stand a cage on end so it's 3 ft tall - put a soft blanket in the end/floor of the cage. Also place a babygate on top of cage for more height. Then the cats visit through the cage bars. (I never leave them alone to make sure, no one jumps over the cage.) Then after a couple weeks, if they seem to either like each other, or ignore each other, I'll let them mingle for short periods (say an hour or so) each day. The mingle periods gradually get longer, until I know I can trust them not to fight. With the exception of kittens under 4 months, I have only introduced spayed/neutered cats to each other. (Including two middle-aged neutered males.)
They are in separate rooms and I will put the newbie in a crate 2-3 times a day and let my cat kinda roam the room he is in. I just didn't know what the clicking meant. Sassy does that chirping sound when she looks at the birds too, but this clicking is different. Almost like he is smacking his tongue against the roof of his mouth. Anyway, he gets neutered tomorrow and has his first appt today for his initial exam......All my pets get neutered. That's one thing I don't contribute too.... unwanted kitty's in shelters :x
