People....come on. Why do people have to act like complete "donkey butts" when asked for information needed in a professional office that is going to HELP them? Can....can...we just NOT do that? It makes for a better experience for all involved if everybody just does what their asked to do. You want help, we want to help. There are no such things as magical, crystal balls.

I have been down this road before and I feel like I am :beathorse:. or better yet.....:banghead:

Is this a generic complaint, or did something specific happen this morning?

The only thing I've ever refused was to give my SSN....Sorry for your frustration this morning. Hope it gets better!

I guess kind of both. LOL It does get frustrating....And then the whol lobby is looking at them and then at us and then at them and back at us. And the only one they are embarassing is themselves, which should give some level of satisfaction. But tt seems to set the mood for the day.........LOLOL

I have refused to give my driver's license number to the receptionist at the Doctor's office that I have been going to since 2001. I was going on a monthly basis and paying by check every time. The girl told me she needed my license number in order to take my check. I had them bill me and sent them the check I had already written WITHOUT my license number. With all the identity theft these days it was just another piece of information that could get into the wrong hands when they leave their files out on the counter.

In a medical office environment, I think they only number they need is my insurance policy number. Giving out a SSN number willy-nilly means that I have to trust anyone in that office with my identity for who knows how ever long. Will they lose it? Will they sell it? Will it be stored on a computer that could be hacked? Will it be discarded carelessly in the trash by accident only to be found my some lowlife wanting to buy a 60" HDTV?

The NCDL...just about as bad. Heck, the DMV was trying to sell driver's information a few years ago. However, I can understand the need for the DL for some form of proof, but not the SSN.

I'll hand out my insurance card to a health care provider. I'll reluctantly give you my DL if asked. However with the SSN, shat I do now is instead of leaving the line blank, I just leave off the last four digits, which is the unique identifier of an individual.

Godschild, I know what you mean. When I was working full time, it was constantly an issue. I know no one wants to give their SS, but a lot of insurances (esp. vision plans) use that as their ID #, which stinks, but it's a reality. It kinda comes to a point where you just have to say, I'm just trying to do my job.. if it's an issue call your INSURANCE CO. and have them change your ID#, otherwise I can't file and you may kindly pay out of pocket :)
