I think the "I don't want you to have to work as hard as I did" peeps outnumber the "a little hard work never killed anybody" peeps. I think it just depends on the way one feels about their accomplishments. Some appreciate hard work, and feel it made them the persn they are today, others - while hard workers, feel they should have been given more.
The Greatest Generation? WWII. The irresponsible generation? The Reagan era. YOU CAN HAVE EVERYTHING AND NO ONE HAS TO PAY FOR IT!!! The irresponsible part? We are passing a $10 TRILLION national debt on to our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren etc. Who is paying for the illegal invasion of Iraq? Who is financing outrages tax cuts for the wealthiest people in the world? And who is paying for the stimulus package? It's all on the cuff. Our children, grandchildren, etc. You don't think that is irresponsible? In the 1980 election paying off the National debt was an issue. Today it is a Fantasy! And it has GOP written all over it!
Actually I think the "irrisponsible generation" is the grandchildren of the greatest generation (GenX'ers), not their children (Baby Boomers). Now, as far as history is concerned, you do know that the national debt leading up to WWII, in comparison to the GDP was way worse than it is now, right? (Another widely known fact that seems to have escapeed you is that FDR and the democrats were running things at the time) As far as the "illegal invasion" of Iraq, that's complete bull crap. Iraq was in violation of their surrender agreement. As such, the surrender became null and void. Besides, if it's so illegal, where is the comment of such from the UN?
Definitely WWII. One of my uncles (age 87) died this past Sunday. He was one of 4 brothers that served in WWII at the same time. Their dad (my grandfather) was chief of police in both Clayton and Selma. Only 1 of the brothers still living now. One received a purple heart. Grenade scrapnle blew half of his stomach out. He was lucky to survive. This generation were hard working men and women. Great role models/mentors. As a kid I remember seeing all four together in their uniforms. That was almost 70 years ago. My heroes as a kid! They were not looking for handouts.
I agree with that. I was curious what Bear was saying was the greatest generation because he said their children (or spawn, as he called us), were "the most irresponsible generation". Personally I don't think my generation is all that irresponsible.
That is all beside the point. The reason that the President of the United States gave to us was that " Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction and was an immediate threat to the U.S. That was an outright lie.
First off, Mr. Bush gave five reasons for the invasion. Check out his speech to the UN for the list of five. Second, how is it a lie when most of the world's intelligence agencies said the same thing. Check out the infamous Resolution 1441. Finally, if you don't know your history, shut the 7734 up.
The kids today do not know what its like to have to work hard for something they want or how to work period. They are not held accountable for thier actions. They are not afraid of the consequences, parents or any authority figure.
Let's not blanket "all" kids that way. Yes, there are many bad apples, but we also have some wonderful young people out there. Eve Carson comes to mind right now. She sounded like she was a wonderful young person. I personally am trying to raise a responsible young man, as are many on here. 8)
yes and how about Cleo's wonderful son (see the Student Ambassador thread in the 'hood) and SB's daughter was just asked to be a part of some prestigous group at her school.....and then there are mine....LOL...kidding about that mostly.... but seriously, if the media gave the attention to the good things in this world then it would be boring, thats why we just hear about the bad stuff....there are lots of good kids out there....
