I appreciate that. It's not at our house, it's at his office in Garner, so no kids there. And they don't go with me when I'm there either, I have two mornings a week with no kids...7.5 whole hours a week!! Yeehah! I'll let him know you offered, but he probably wouldn't want to do it, would just have me and him do it until he finds someone.
Have you considered contacting the Employment Security Commission to get you job opening posted through their system? I'm not sure how that works but expect there must be at least some people actually looking for work who go to the ESC office.
Hubby was asking me also about calling Wake Tech and maybe NC State to see if they had any recent grads that might be looking. Do they have placement people that do that?
Where is this job located? Is it full or part time? I'm now working part time for a tile setter in Raleigh. I am very proficient with computers, MS Office, Internet, Quick Books, although not proficient, use QB for our home. Mature female. I'm looking to make a change but would prefer part time. Ro
I don't know exactly what benefits are. I know there's health ins, not sure when it starts, and I think dental is offered too, but not 100% sure on that. There is vacation pay, not sure of how many days. Hope this helps.
You will probably receive a lot of resumes. The key is the interviewing process. Make sure you are upfront about salary and definitely expectations of the job. It may take longer to find the right employee but in the end, you save a LOT of time by not wasting time on employees that you will have to process paperwork for, train, fire, etc. The best bet is not to do a standard interview. Everyone knows what questions most employers ask. Go buy an interviewing book or even look on the web for some off the wall questions. This will show you how creative they are and how well they think and process information under pressure. I always paid a lot of attention to their attire, professionalism, their posture, etc. I was always amazed at even some of the errors that I saw on a resume. It showed their lack of attention to detail. There are so many things that will tell you if someone is just looking for a paycheck or a job where they can feel productive and proud. Best of luck!
Dawn - That's exactly what my hubby's thinking, maybe he's interviewing wrong. He's trying to come up with some original questions, like if someone says they have worked with QB, ask them what kind of things they've done with it. So he knows they're not just saying that. I told him I'd interview for him, if he thought that would help. He does get a lot of resumes, I think he's gotten 10 just last night, and he didn't even post it online until about 4:00. And I probably got about 10 PMs last night as well (thanks everyone!) And I agree about errors on resumes, that's a pet peeve of mine. If I notice one error/typo I will let it slide, but anymore than that and I don't want you working for me. It means you don't take the time and pride in your work that I would need from you. Thanks again for all your help everyone, and keep the input coming! I'll still welcome any PM's from you as well, haven't talked to hubby yet today, so don't know if he's gotten bunches more, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Another tactic I used was to get them in a "comfort zone" by trying to make them more relaxed. When individuals walk in for an interview, they already have the mindset of "best foot forward". If you get them to relax and let their guard down, you tend to see a more actual side of them. Oh and one other thing, always ask open-ended questions and not "yes/no" questions. Pause after their responses and they feel the need to "talk" more to fill the space. You will be amazed at some of the things they will say. :? Just a few tricks. Yes, I agree, resumes do not tell the whole story. As far as QB goes, I'd definitely ask what capacity have they used QB. If they are quite familiar with the software, learning the business end of it shouldn't be very difficult. You mentioned full time; what are the exact hours and where in Garner? I live in the 4042 area. As I mentioned earlier I am now working part time in Raleigh for a commercial tile setter organization so I do deal with general contractor's on a daily basis. Ro
I think the hours are 7:30-4:30, or think they can be 7-4 if preferred. I'm not entirely sure on all the logistics, I'm not in here enough to know. It is in Garner on Raynor Rd, just a couple miles from White Oak near 70. He does residential construction, not commercial, not sure if I mentioned that earlier.
If part of the problem is that they are over-inflating their experience - put them to the test.... Years ago I went through an interview process - once the interview itself was over they had me sit down at the computer and actually perform some tasks on each software package that would be used on a daily basis. This should weed out some of those people.....
