I don't know what happened tonight...my 8yo was looking at dirtbikes online, when i walked in I saw a porn site online! He said he didnt' know how it got there, he was looking at dirtbikes...my hubby was just in the room looking at them with him literally about 5 minutes before that.

NOW...On my desktop screen I have in big red letters: WARNING: YOU'RE IN DANGER, YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED WITH SPYWARE. I don't notice anything wrong with the computer so far, email and online are working, outlook is working. Is something really bad about to happen, and how do I get this warning off my computer? I'd appreciate any help. I am not too computer savvy, just know the basics. Help!

EEK! I run adaware once a week but maybe the tekies can help you in the am.

You may or may not be infected with Spyware now, i would say no, but if you click on that link you definitely will be infected and chances are that it would be stuck in such a loop that you will never get out of it.

    Happened to me last summer.

Visit Ewido and run their online scan. (On the home page, look for the "scan now" link on the left, next to the picture of the guy with the laptop.)

    http://www.ewido.net/en/

If you have a spyware/malware infection, Ewido will normally clean it for you. Good luck!

I suggest you run more than one spyware remover. No one software ever finds it all.

Here's my list and the sequence I run them in:

    1. Disk Clean up (windows app)
    2. RegSeeker http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=2579&file=1&evp=1f2abec40aadc4219ef8703d11416eeb
    3. HiJackThis http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=3155&file=10&evp=3304750663b552982a8baee6434cfc13
    4. Spybot http://www.spybotupdates.com/files/spybotsd152.exe
    5. Ewido (use App's link)

Then I start at #2 and run them all for a second time.

Thanks everyone. I did the ewido thing this morning, but had to leave so haven't messed with it since then. My mom told me about adaware this morning, so will try that as well. I noticed after ewido this morning that big red warning was still on my desktop, will that ever go away? I still can't believe that happened, although my mom kept telling me it was just a matter of time...

Download and run Hijackthis. When it starts click "Scan and Create a File". Post that text on here. This will tell us what the problem is.

It will not "just go away"!

I agree with everyone. The hijack this will show you if there are spyware or a virus. However, using mcafee will not help. Ewido is really good to use. Also Ad-aware is also good.

    Good Luck!
