cost me $42 to fill up the Escape. I can drive on that back and forth to Raleigh (from 40/42) for 5-6 days.....I don't think that's too bad....
it cost me about $55/60 and I do the 40 drive into Raleigh and I drive at lunch everyday and it only last 5 days! that is the pits!
I drive a minivan most days, it's costing about $55 to fill it all the way up. But since I work in Clayton, it lasts almost 2 weeks. DH on the other hand..........................egads! He drives to Raleigh 2 or 3 days a week, fills up about once a week in the Aztek. Ugly car, but gets great gas mileage.
More important than profit margin is Return on Investment (ROI). A large volume of business can result in profitability on a smaller margin of profit, for example Walmart can be profitable with a 1% or 2% margin, while the Mom & Pop store down the street may need to make a 20% or 25% margin of profit to stay in business. The real measure is ROI. How much money do you have invested in the business? What kind of return could you get on that same amount invested in an alternative business or other economic opportunity? If CD's are paying 4% and corporate bonds are paying 5%, I certainly need to make well above that in a business to justify risking my money in that business. It would be interesting to know the ROI experienced by the oil companies, compared to a variety of other industries. If I had time, I'd look it up just to satisfy my own curiosity. BTW, the price of petroleum is one reason the prices of food and many other things are rising.

My car is a 6 cyl. and I drive from Clayton to Durham each day. I drive around 350 miles in a 4 day period and that's how often I have to fill up. Cost me around 46.00 to fill up.
I drive an Escape too :cheers: and I drive to Ral and back 4 days a week, but I have to fill-up about every 4 days. I also drive out to WJHS twice a day to drop DD off/up...... FYI: gas was 3.17 at BJ's yesterday.
I've always wanted one of those Escapes, do you like them?? Boss's wife has one and it's got well over 140,000 miles and still going strong. 'Course, so does my minivan, LOL.
I love my Escape! :cheers: I just drive to and from work and occasionally 3 miles to the school and back....I do try and make all necessary stops either on the way to work or on the way home....not alot of back and forth, to save a bit of gas.
I've been very happy with mine. Had a mini van while the kids were young and then downsized about 5 yrs ago. Mine is a 2001 and has over 141,000 miles on it. I would love to have the new hybrid one!
mine is a 2002 and has about 110,000 miles.... Iwas actually going to upgrade to an Explorer this year, but have decided to keep the Escape for another year....I just love it.
Yep, that's where I am at. Only have one kiddo, no longer need all the extra space for baby/kid paraphenalia and we really aren't traveling back to VA all that much anymore. I think they are a good compromize on size. But I may downsize even further. I'm thinking of either the Dodge Caliber or maybe even a Honda Civic. Just not sure I can tolerate something that small. I just don't like little cars. :?
I am very happy with mine. gets pretty good gas mileage, roomy, zippy (mine is a V6) and I put two things in it, gas and my a.. well fanny, and get the oil changed regularly. Ilike beinig up high too....not low like a car.
I only wish I could be paying the same prices. Yet another reason why I want to move. Yesterday my dh was lucky to find gas at $3.29. Right now we're around $3.40 to $3.50. I shudder to think what ones in California are paying. I can usually get away with filling up my Grand Cherokee once per week. But it's still over $65.00 to do so. It sucks! We had a smaller car that just recently died (a Sentra). But even with that one it would be close to if not over $40.00 to fill up. We need the extra space the Grand gives us. I was borrowing one during our Girl Scout Cookie Sale. My old Sentra didn't have the space to hold what I needed it to. Plus we have 2 dogs that go for rides somewhat frequently. They go into a crate in the cargo area--very handy! I'd consider public transportation, but the closest bus stop to me is nearly 2.5 miles away. I live in an area where the busses barely run. I only hope that the prices will start going down soon.
Exactly! That's what I liked about my van, so I didn't want to go to car really...too low for me. That's what sold me on the Escape, I didn't want a big SUV cause of gas mileage and I really didn't need all that extra room. We have a luggage rack on top for when we go on vacation - but really have only needed to use it once.
