Hubby and I celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary this Sunday and we plan to go out of town on Friday and come home Sunday. Wish we could do more but finances are slim. At this point I'd take a hotel in Burlington as long as it is AWAY. LOL We are headed west as we have some business to attend to in Durham first. We got someone to take care of the kids too!!!! WOOO HOOO!! Any place far but not too far due to money and gas. Wanted to go to Cherokee but a little far right now. I may not be leaving much of a "window" am I??? 8)
There's easy-to-find info on the web about Williamsburg. Colonial Williamsburg is pretty cool plus there's Busch Gardens and the Jamestown settlement right there as well. We always take the quiet, back roads up to 31 and catch the ferry at Scotland across to Jamestown. The whole family really enjoys our trips up there and my wife and I go up there on our own as well. If you decide this is where you'll go I can send you the directions for the route we take. It's a nice drive. Oh yeah. It takes about 2.5 hours to get there.
Thanks clive and Kellbell!!! Please by all means, send the info on!! Do you want to PM it ot me or should I PM my email?
Here is the route we take. 95N to Emporia where you pick up 58W. 58W to 35N through Courtland. After Courtland you'll pick up 628 to Wakefield. (This will be a right turn off of 35....628 dead-ends at 35). In Wakefield this becomes 31 which will take you to Scotland where you will catch the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry into Jamestown. (Just be sure to pay attention for the sign for 628 off of 35.) This drive takes a little longer but we like it much better. After you get off of 58 it's all through the country. Even if you choose another route I hope you have a great time.
Thanks again!!! Sounds pretty easy and the drive will be nice with out the kids........:jester: Mybe we can...ya know.... stop off on a country road and find a remote little area and ....ya know.....kinda.....get RE-aquainted......:jester::jester::twisted:
I know this isn't in keeping with your "couple's getaway" but I thought I'd mention it anyway; if you're inclined to want to take a tour of the Anheuser-Busch brewery you'll need to call ahead and reserve a space.
