My 4yo woke up this morning with weird red dots all around his eyes. He hasn't taken any antibiodics recently, I haven't used any different kinds of soaps or detergents or anything like that. I'm wondering if it's an allergic reaction? My doc doesn't open until 8:30 so I thought maybe someone here could help me? He doesn't have it anywhere else, just around his eyes. They are not bumpy, and just little red dots, just around his eyes (on the skin).
they are not raised, they don't itch, just red dots. i think it must be an allergic reaction, just not sure to what.
My child had a rash after having strip throat. The Doctor said it was the strip coming out thru the skin. Is your child recovering from strip throat?
true that strep throat can cause a rash outside the skin, but its not usually around the eyes. DMJ you said he wasn't taking any antibiotics, so I am assuming he hasn't been sick.....right?
Yes, a strep infection that goes unnoticed can turn into ....... http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/infections/bacterial_viral/scarlet_fever.html My son had it...he never had a fever, no pain, NOTHING....until the red bumps showed up on his tongue, face, neck and chest. Check his tongue and go from there.......
No, he hasn't been sick with anything. He's had scarlet fever before, which is strep throat with a rash, and it's not that. He hasn't been sick at all, he doesn't have any food-type allergies or anything like that. He has occasionally had seasonal allergies, and I think that's affecting a lot of people lately, so maybe that's what it is. He's just been sneezing a little, but no cough or runny nose or sore throat or anything. And we're heading out of town tomorrow, which is why I'd really like to figure it out before we leave! I've got a call into the dr office, hopefully it won't take them all day to call me back! If anyone else has any ideas, please post them here for me, I'll keep checking. I just thought maybe someone else here had seen something like this before.
Well, I can't check his tongue because he's at the babysitters! When he had scarlett fever before, he was VERY sick. A fever of 102, the rash, and he was just acting like he was dying. He typically gets very sick when he's sick. There's no doubt in anyone's mind. And he does get sick a lot, but like I said, this isn't bothering him at all, he didn't even know he had it until I asked him. Then he went into the bathroom and washed his face, he said so his rash would go away (he's only 4).
My son had little red dots that weren't raised around his eyes from rubbing them too hard. This pollen drives him crazy-itchy, watery eyes and lots of sneezing. It looked like broken blood vessels and if I remember correctly they cleared up in a couple of days.
AJ - That sounds like what he has, although as far as I can tell he hasn't itched them. Maybe he was while sleeping and just didn't realize it. It's so hard when they're that young, they can't express themselves well.
OK, the nurse just called and said it sounds like seasonal allergies. She recommended antihistamine (?), like Benadryl, does anyone know if they make that for 4 yo's that doesn't cause drowsiness? Although that might be good to give him before we board the plane (he's scared of flying)!
any antihistamine is gonna make him a bit drowsy. I used to give 1/2 doses during the day and full dose later on in the evening.
Do they make Claritin for kids? My poor kiddo is about to scratch his eyes out with the pollen. The benedryl makes him so sleepy, I didn't dare give it to him this morning before school.
It seems like I've heard of it before. I'll let you know if I see any while out in the store today getting my son meds.
I'm going, I'm going, bless his heart! The pollen doesn't bother me, but it's eating him up this year.
how old is he? I think if they are over 8 they can take regular Claritin (and I buy the Walmart, CVS, Lowes Foodlion brand, its way way cheaper)....
