Looks like we will be needing a new disdwasher. In 11 years the main basket is damaged and front panel buttons are worn out. We have been advised because of the age it will be difficult and expensive to purchase these parts. We have a KitchenAid dishwasher.
Any recommendations on the best dishwasher?

    I swear by Matag products.

Had the washer & dryer for 11 years now and the last house we bought Maytag dishwaher - loved it. Now I got some POS that only holds one pot and maybe a plate - It's WAY smaller than my other one. :?

3 + mos and I"m outta here! :hurray:

Are you leaving Apex, or just your house? I never did really understand why you live in Apex if you hate it? I joined 4042 in August, and it seems like you had just moved there, and didn't seem too happy about it!

Unless it's a reasonable fee in your opinion, or included in the purchase of the new dishwasher I'd recommend installing it yourself if your able. It's really nothing complicated; a few wire nuts, a couple hose clamps (the places for hose connections are already there although you may need an easy-to-find adapter if the new dishwasher has different sized hoses than the old one), level the feet and a few screws to anchor it underneath your countertop. It's a pretty uncomplicated do-it-yourself project.
With that said; if the installation includes taking your old dishwasher away then that additional service can certainly make it a worthwhile expense.

We like Kenmore products. However when we went to replace our dishwasher in the fall Kenmore did not have one in our price range with features we were looking for. I did not want anything fancy but QUIET was essential. Our last dishwasher sounded like a train was coming through the kitchen. In our small home we could only run it at night while sleeping so we did not have to listen to it :) We ended up buying a mid-priced Maytag and have been very pleased. We actually picked out a different dishwasher that day but it was not in stock so they gave us an upgrade for no additional charge.

GE is still bringing good things to life (not to mention just about anybody can repair them)!

Basically, all dishwashers are the same nowadays. Look for an established installer in your area (they likely have a prefered brand). Then find the features you want. You could look around on the consumer reports website also.
