I'm in desperate need of a Pediatric Cardiologist! I'm still fairly new to the area and want my 18 month old daughter to see the BEST! Not just a referral!

We went in for her 18 month well baby and I was fully expecting to be referred to a speech therapist, but came out being referred to a Pediatric Cardiologist. The doctor dectected a 2/6 heart murmur in my 18 month old.

I'm trying not to freak out, but since my family has a history of heart disease, I don't want to be too careful!

    Thanks!

We see the cardiology team at UNC. I can tell you a good majority of murmurs do turn out to be benign. I have an 8yo, almost 9yo, with holes in her heart. She just got a great report last week and doesn't have to go back for 2 years! We never had surgery on the holes in her heart. They are not fully closed but doing so well that she no longer needs antibiotics before surgery or dentist visits. I have another son that has a slight murmur but that is it. Always best to check them out for sure. I highly recommend the Pediatric Cardiology team at UNC. They have satellite offices in various places and we go to the one at Wakemed Heart Center on New Bern Ave. They're fantastic and great w/ the kids. I wish you all the best.

    Hi Stephanie!

I think that is where she has been referred to. What doctor or doctors have you seen there and are you happy with them?

Thanks again to you and everyone for there thoughts and prayers. This is certainly a very scary time for us!

Best of luck and try not to freak out even though I know I would be too. I know that is hard right now, but just try to stay positive and hope for the best. We will keep you in our prayers.

I second the UNC team. My DD has been a patient with them since she was 4 days old. She's now 4 1/2.

UNC pediatric's for sure.... My daughter went there after seeing many specialists in this area and Raleigh that could not give us a diagnosis - only more prescriptions...... She was having pulmonary issues though, so I do not have a cardiologists name for you, but we love UNC....

Yep, UNC for sure. I have 2 sons with heart murmurs, one is 2 and one is 8, and that's where they were checked out. They both are very slight, and not a big deal, but it's still important to get it checked out. Don't freak out though, it's probably nothing. I can't remember the dr we saw, although I'm pretty sure we went to a place in Raleigh, maybe off Wake Forest Rd? Sorry, I'm not much help. But I do know it was through UNC.

My son goes to Carolina Children's Cardiology. They have an office on the 2nd floor of the Wake Med hospital Heart Center. Phone # is 919-966-4601 or 919-859-2676. They are wonderful!!!!

If it's Pediatric Cardiology your seeking help with, the best place is UNC. But you will need a referral from your pediatrician.

We saw Dr. Henry with UNC. We went to the clinic at Wake Med and it is referred to as Carolina Children's Consultants.
My son was born with a hole is his heart. We were followed for three years and the hole closed. I could not have been happier with Dr. Henry. He gave me all of the time I needed to ask questions and get info. He was very caring and I never felt rushed. I wish my regular dr would have given us as much time Sorry you are going through this--but UNC is the best place to go.
