Does anybody know what happened there this morning? It was right in front of Lassiter Farms S/D (at least I think that's the name of it). I was on my way to work and as soon as I rounded the curve at Polenta I saw a stopped school bus, rescue, fire department, etc. I know the bus stops there each morning to pick up kids and they have to cross the road to get on the bus. I sure hope with all the fog that one of those children didn't get hit. My DS, who is on the VFD, said it came across as a pedestrian was struck. I had to do a U turn and go back down Polenta. A middle school child, friend of our family, got hit by a car when she was crossing McLemore to get on the bus I have called her mother, and spoke to her little brother, have not been able to get much information. Please say some prayers for this little girl. That stop is so horrible, I cringe every morning when my son has to cross the road to go to the stop, then cross back over to get on the bus.
That is awful. The story says it was a hit and run! Thank goodness that the injuries are not life threatnening, is all I can say. That is an awful curve and why in the **** would a bus stop be there anyways! I hope they catch the person who did this soon.:x
That's horrible. I hope the child will be ok. Did this happen while she was crossing to get "on" the bus. If so, does that mean a bus load of kids were watching as one of their classmates was struck by a car? I really hope the child involved in this accident will be OK and that the driver of the vehicle who stuck her will be identified soon.
I agree, hopefully someone saw something and will be able to tell what direction the SUV was going. Aren't the HS kids in school already when the MS kids are waiting for the bus? Not sure, since I don't have kids that age yet. Who knows, it could have been someone trying to get to work in a rush. The fog was terrible and thick this morning. I tried pulling out of the elementary school parking lot and could barely see what was coming around the corner. It was tough out there this morning, but still no excuse to leave the scene.:x
oh that person will be found....I will be shocked if they don't. Guaranteed its someone that goes that way every single day to work or school. That's just crazy. Thank goodness the girl will be alright.
article says, 'while she waited for the bus', but sounds like the bus came up on the scene. Hopefully they had her inside the ambulance so's her peers didn't see her laying there, hurt.
I think it was when they were crossing, or getting ready to cross, but the kids did see her get hit, my son gets on at the stop w/her, my dh went to see if he wanted to get off the bus, but he said no. I'll find out more information from him when he gets home at 3 today.
No, HS'ers are still enroute to school while the middle schoolers wait for buses. I know that bus comes through our neighborhood around 6:35AM.
It's very sad that something like this has to happen. Such a thing could be avoided if school buses actually entered a subdivision to pick up children. It's such a joke, cause they will stop at every freaking house on 210 and wait for as long as 3 minutes (I have timed them) waiting for a kid to get their coat on, gather their stuff and drag their butts as slow as they can down their driveway, holding up traffic and choose a seat like they were going to sit their for the rest of their lives; yet a couple of minutes to enter a subdivision and turn around is out of the question. They finally started coming into mine, after a good many people complained about the danger caused by drivers leaving and entering the S/D with a line of cars on the side holding children and their parents (cause 210 is no place to stand). If you were going out or coming in while the cars were lined up, there was only 1 lane available and a couple of head-ons were narrowly avoided. The a------ that hit that child is a sorry sack - bad enough when these idiots hit dogs and cats and keep on truckin'(don't get me started on that one), but how could you hit a human and not stop? Accidents happen, many are forgiven under certain circumstances - road conditions, where the child was standing etc. . .running shows lack of character. I hope they get caught soon and pay the price dearly.
