Dang, that is early. So I wonder was it dark and foggy at the same time? I am not usually up at that time in the morning. Sounds like a freak accident but turned into a crime when the person drove off.
I'm glad that none of the kids saw it happen ... but I hope enough adults saw the vehicle responsible to help identify it. Wow ... 6:30 in the morning ... that's pretty early. I'm not looking forward to middle school years ... I have trouble getting my son up & ready in time for elementary school.
It was definitely dark, but the fog got worse as the morning went on. When I was outside after the accident, you could see up and down, but then when I went out later for my daughters bus, you couldnt see anything. That stop is just plain bad, the bus goes up, then comes back down to pick up the kids, so they have to cross McLemore to get on the bus.
I beleive something like this happened in Cary and a child was actually killed. I think it was because the bus did not go into the SD and stopped at the road. Finally it took a child being killed to get the school system to do something and now have the bus enter in the SD. What a hard lesson to learn for the school system and everyone else.
Thats terrible! WRAL mentioned the accident right before we left to head out that way. I went down to Watkins or Grill (between Dr's and garden shop), then went all the way down to Sonny Rd and made a left on Ral rd. I wasn't sure where the accident was but WRAL did mention Polenta - so knew not to go that way - hate that curve anyway! The fog was really bad this AM, even when I left at 8:30 for work it was still bad in the 4042 area! Hope they catch the driver  DH rode motorcycle this AM, I was sooo worried about him.
I was coming home from the gym, and slowed down when I saw the bus approaching that stop. I saw kids at the bus stop, and I said to my self, " I hope those kids are careful. it's so foggy today." It was very dark, and very foggy at that moment. I am really freaked out that I had probably just come through right before the child was hit. The bus hadn't stopped yet, and didn't have their stop sign out, so I was able to keep going.
Driving too fast when it's dark and foggy is not a freak accident. If you can't stop within the distance you can see ahead, you're driving too fast.
On a side note: I couldn't believe all the stupid drivers I saw WITHOUT their lights on in the fog this AM!!! :?
and people riding up on my butt.....I was going the speed limit or lil less due to the fog. Come on People....becareful out there.
Saw some without lights, and some creeping along like there was a foot of snow on the ground. I'm all for driving safely, but you go THAT slow and you are creating a hazard. :?
Thats true - especially if they don't have lights on either  somebody would be done rear-ended your a**.
Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers....I was just informed that she has 2 broken legs, 2 broken arms and broken ribs...poor baby girl.
MAN! That's terrible! Will keep her and the family in my prayers. I would certainly think with those types of injuries - that driver had to have known they hit someone! Did they stop and then leave?
Poor thing!!! It's bad but thank God, it could have been so much worse!!!!! Prayers and support to her and her family.
how awful! everybody keep a watch out for this vehicle, it has to be somwone that was on there way to work or something.... states they are missing a passenger side mirror, dark colored SUV! bless this kids heart, she does have a long haul, broken jaw, awwwwww, broken leg over the summer, poor thang... but thank you Lord that she is alive and will heal and recover..... Let's look for the blessings in this and be thankful! Now, please lead one of us to this vehicle!
