I saw a bad accident at 42 & Cornwallis last night. Hope everyone in that one was OK, they were loading the ambulances as I went by.

After reading a couple of postings concerning spouses riding motorcycles in this thread yesterday, I was concerned when I saw the following story on 1270wmpm.com last night. Unfortunately, it looks like a few families in the area had a heartbreaking day.

NC210 Wreck Claims Life Of Motorcyclist

Charges are pending in connection with a fatal accident Thursday afternoon on Highway 210 at Black Creek Road outside of Four Oaks. The Highway Patrol said the driver of a Chevy Trailblazer was traveling westbound on Highway 210 just after noon, and attempted to make a left turn onto Black Creek Road, in front of a motorcycle traveling eastbound. The motorcycle struck the passenger side door of the SUV, ejecting the operator, who was pronounced dead on arrival at WakeMed. The driver of the SUV was transported to Johnston Memorial for treatment of minor injuries. State Trooper J.M. Dorsey is investigating the collision.

This morning I saw a guy (@7:15am, in the fog) riding a bicycle on Cleve rd, near the MS! And he had on dark clothing - hope he made it to where he was going! Thats just not a good idea considering the time of the day (lots of traffic) and the visibility!! :?

    Amazing and an update

As I stood on my front porch this morning waiting for the same bus to pick up my son, I was appalled at the people speeding down McLemore! There were many that were going slower than normal, but there were the few that were just racing to get where they were going. Hubby did call to say that the police were on McLemore, so hopefully they got some of those speeding.

Also, I spoke to the little girl's mom last night, and she said she was stable. Hoping to get up to the hospital tonight or tomorrow to visit her.

Dh got a new one (new to us, anyway) over the weekend, he was going to ride the motorcycle to work some. I'm not sure I am 100% behind that idea right now. :?

Oops, I deleted it since Melynda and I were on the same wavelength and posted about the exact same story at the exact same time. :)

I do worry about all of our bike riders on here.

OMG...to see that picture of the chevy (which I have the same vehicle). It is a week since my accident and I count my blessings everyday when I look at my children and to thank god for watching over us that day.

I hope the lil girl is doing okay and we are keeping her and her family in our prayers. If there is anything we can do, please let us know.

I giggled myself when I saw that. I can handle dirtbikes - because I figure the accidents on those are usually caused by the driver and they usually aren't fatal. Street bikes are an entirely different story. No matter how good a rider you are, your safety depends on the others operating the cars nearby. Wrecks between motorcycles & full sized vehicles travelling at highway speeds always seem to have a terrible outcome.

That's why I ride on the back, you know - back seat driver

We've been very lucky so far, some of our friends, not so lucky.

Someone recently asked me why I don't ride with DH, I said because I'd hate for our son to lose both his parents at the same time. :? Before we had him, DH had a Ninja and we used to go out together, I trust DH's riding skills, I don't trust the other morons out there.

I figure when it's my time to go, it's my time to go. I know what you are saying though because of the kid.

Oh, I agree with you about it being your time. You just never know when today is going to be your last day. I need to remember that more often when I get bent out of shape over the small stuff.

    :iagree:

My brother was nearly killed due to a moron who made a left turn in front of him, he was laid up for 6 months.....has fully recovered (as much as he is going to) and as much as the family hates it, he is back on a m/c riding again! He loves it, addicted and there is no way he will stop riding.

DH was on a trip with a guy last month that spent 3 months in a coma for something very similar. And he's still riding. Crazy.

Yeah, that's how I sorta feel too. Too, I enjoy riding, but I don't LUV it, makes me a little nervous.....and I think like this: I really wouldn't want to be hurt really bad and/or have life-long injuries doing something that is not MY fav thing. I guess I think like that after hearing about a lady who lost her leg in a bike accident. The risk is just not worth it to me, but I do ride with him occassionally....but usually with a group of others. I use to worry about him all the time - but I've just learned to accept it, and say a prayer.
