I will, I spoke to her mom a little while ago, she had surgery this morning, and is recovering. She's supposed to be calling me later.

I just cant believe the news crew was waiting for this kids to get off the bus yesterday afternoon. I think they have been through enough without someone wanting to jerk their emotions around some more to get a news story. My son stood by her while the bus driver went to get her phone off the bus after it happened. Now he is very upset about the whole thing and all the news people want to do is get more details from little kids.

I thought that was kind of tacky, too. I would not be very happy about news crews accosting & televising my underage son without my permission.

:iagree: maybe some of the parents from the neighborhood would've been okay, so they could voice their concern about the bus stop location. But not the kids.:?

Oh thank you! I got confused, the Jr Beta Club induction/ceremony is next week. I knew I had something going on. :) Yes, Mr Percy is one of the teachers that conducts the Johnston County Youth Orchestra. We used to have Orchestra at the middle school, but the School Board in all of their brilliance decided that was a bad idea and dispersed him to the Elementary Schools instead. Does your daughter go to JCYO?

I think it is a necessary evil because if anything will tug on people's heartstrings and get them motivated to act, to really look for the person that hit this girl, it is seeing our own children and those of the people that live around us share a little of their pain. The kids on the TV will be ok, it is the least they can do if this is what it takes to help find this person. The high school kids are full of rumors, hopefully someone will come forward soon with some accurate information that will lead to an arrest.

I think the kid thought it was probably pretty cool, and I think it might get people more emotionally involved but I really wonder if that is what their intent was. Why not interview the bus driver? Me, I am doing some SUV Hunting myself this afternoon.

No, she is in the 3rd grade at Dixon this year and they offered it. She seems to like it. She wanted to quit half way through one day but I told her no, that she needed to finish what she starts and sets out to do and that her "musician peers" were counting on her to be at performances and such. I said if she decided to to do it next year, that was different. But now she likes it again....go figure. And on a side note, I TOO have noticed tha "brilliance" of the school board.....:?

Yeah, they could have mentioned that BEFORE I plunked down money and drove to Greensboro for an upright bass. So, he does Band & Jazz Band and JCYO. But really, JCYO is on the only string instruction he gets, it's a good thing Mr P plays the upright bass as well.

The parents of the subdivision need to go to the schools and fill out a form that they have in the office to request the bus stop be moved to somewhere in the subdivision. If all the parents do it, they should move the bus stop for all the children not just the middle schoolers. It is too dangerous for any child to stand there to wait for their busses. It shouldn't matter if they were crossing the street to get on the bus or not. One of them could be hurt just standing there.

I heard today on the news that the subdivision road is not a state road. Buses are only allowed on state roads (some state roads can't handle a bus or have no place for a bus to turn around). They will have to go through the process to become a state road. Usually, when a subdivision is built, the developers have to abide by certain requirements to be able to make it a state road. If the developers didn't follow the specifications for it to be a state road, there will need to be work done on the road, probably paid for by the residents. Unfortunately, it's probably not as easy as petitioning the school.

I see buses off state roads all the time. I don't think that has anything to do with it. I believe that if you voice your concerns to the school that should do the trick.

I have always heard this as the reason also. But in our subdivision the bus stop used to be on Cleve sch rd, and just this yr I've seen buses coming into the subd. to pick up the kids and nothing was done to change our roads? I think they should either come into the subd. or arrange the route so that the kids do not have to cross the road/street to board a bus.

I always heard you had to be state maintained as well, but guess what. My neighborhood is not state maintained and the busses started coming through here 2 years ago. CALL & SQUEAK!!!

Good. I'm glad to hear it. Maybe they changed the rules. Kids are much safer being picked up in subdivisions than on busy roads!
