We go every year. I don't think we have missed one. DS is in middle school now, but we still go for his sisters. You can get a bracelete (sp) for unlimited rides, 10$. If you bake a cake for the cake walk, you get three free tickets for the cake walk.
I think today is the last day for the bracelets. If you buy them tomorrow they are $12. Still a deal though. I baked stuff for the cake walk and didn't know you got tickets. I was very excited to get some of those. There was a lot of good stuff being dropped off this morning and I'm sure more as the day goes on.
A cakewalk is kind of like musical chairs where whoever lands on the number that matches the one on the cake when the music stops wins the cake. So you have 10-20-30 people walking for each cake and only one person wins each time. They are fun, and usually good fund raisers.
Well I am glad you posted this because I haven't heard anything about it. It gives us something to do tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will hold up.
Mrs. Jo James of Front Carpool fame told me that they would have most everything indoors if it rains. I hope it hold off till late afternoon. - K
Did their cake walk give away whole cakes? Dixon Road's was only giving tiny pieces of cakes or brownies or whatever and it seemed ridiculous to use $1.50 worth of tickets on a chance that you may be 1 of 15 to win a piece of cake. Our festivals when I was in school (long, long ago) gave the whole cake.
I thought the same thing. But we did not do the cake walk until close to 8 when we were fixing to leave and they let my son and everyone else keep walking until they won something. He had an armband and did not use any tickets. Probably because they still had tons of stuff left.
We went to the Dixon Road Country Fair Friday night and it was super fun!! I liked the idea of only getting a slice of cake or a brownie....we don't eat stuff like that and certainly would not have any need for an entire cake or pie, sucha treat to have just a taste.
We had fun too and I certainly don't want to sound unsupportive of our school, as I am there a lot helping out. I just wondered if it had changed over the years or if the organizers didn't know. I think a slice is okay but for a slice I think 1 ticket (i.e. 50 cents) would have been sufficient. Also as someone who did some of the baking of the goodies, I hated to see so much left over. Also, a bake sale would have been better and then kids could get how much they wanted.
The school has only been there barely 2 years and this is the first carnival, so I am sure there are/were kinks. I too also baked goods for the event. I didn't know there were leftovers. I am sure they probably thought they would run out. I agree with the 1 ticket to play. I just hope they raised some monies, even if there were a few kinks. For their first go at it, I thought it went pretty well.
I'm pretty sure Cleveland gives you the whole cake/tray of cupcakes/whatever. I saw folks with them, and have seen them in the past.
