I have to ask the general public if you would be annoyed... let me set the stage. Recently, a neighbor's son and father acquired dirt bikes. Since having the dirt bikes they are out there riding them and all you can hear with the windows down and the tv on is the frummmmmmmmmm frummmmmmmmmmm frummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! They ride in the designated spot for the homeowners which I am sure wasn't made as a practice spot for dirt bikes! To be sure these individuals didn't purchase these dirt bikes with the intention to ride on less that .5 acre of land?? Ok, so am I being snippy?

Depends on where they ride and at what times, my guess is that you are not snippy.

Definitely depends on the time and such. Motorcycles are my hobby (streetbikes and dirt). I am always fixing them up, etc. Typically I try to tune/ride them in the unbuilt subdivision across the street where the neighbors cant hear them, But sometimes it is unavoidable that I rev one up in the garage, etc. I always try to be mindful of others. Dirtbikes are especially noisy if they are 2-stroke (most are) cause its either wide open throttle or nothing. Plus they rip up dirt like a tiller.

The way I see it you have a few options.....

Wait a few weeks til they get bored of them or riding in the same area.
Talk to them about it (likely they have put loud mufflers on for more speed).
Leave/give them some info about on of the local tracks.
    Call the sheriff on them.

Just depends on the relationship you have with the dad.

Oh yeah, another option is to beat them @ the same game. Buy your own bigger bike and smoke them :p Or just let me know when and where, provide free beer and me and tha boys will come over one night and do burnouts all night long :p

Good luck. Inconsiderate people are a tough problem.

I just hate to complain. I am sure at one time or another I have/will do something to annoy others so I am trying to tread lightly. Hopefully they will get tired of riding soon, one can only hope. Once the pollen is gone I am looking forward to a few weeks with the windows open and that is the LAST thing that I want to hear!

Just curious, is it during the day? I am not sure there is a whole heck of a lot you can do if it is on their property (if I read that right). If it is after the noise ordinance time then you can call the sheriff, but during the day time i am not sure. Good question to ask the sheriff. Good luck.

We have dirt bikes (my boys and my DH).
They go to Busco Beach and are really enjoying that. Maybe suggest Busco. It is only about 45minutes away.

Leave em alone and let them ride. dang. Why is everyone so uptight these days. Maybe you will have a party or something one day and they wont say anything.

I will try to be quieter when I ride.
    UGH.

As long as they are not in your yard, what is the big deal. As long as it is before 11 p.m. who cares?

    I am done.......

Sorry, Cleo add me to the calendar please. ROFL

    It's a fine line.

Honestly I get mad if people do it too early. I think after 6 is too late. Because thats the universal relaxing time after work. If I can't go outside and sit on the porch without hearing a bunch of noise then I would be mad.

I see it like neighbors mowing the lawn. You have to do it. But not for 5 hours straight you know?

There's some sort of dirt bike track between Coats and Angier on 55, but its likely some sort of club or something. I'm reminded of that Montgomery Gentry song, "I was here first and this is my piece of dirt..." Not sure if they were there first or not, but if they are doing it on their own property and have the mufflers on the bikes, probably not a lot you're going to get done about it. That's especially so during appropriate hours.

I can imagine the noise can get annoying. I hope that some practical solution comes about for you.

No, you are not being "snippy". I have the same issue in my area. Although the neighbors are a few doors down, it is very obnoxious and inconsiderate. There are specific places designated to ride dirt bikes and riding around in circles in your yard is rude and tacky. That's my personal opinion which I am entitled to. Before pouncing on me for my opinion here is a thought to consider. You wake up at 5am to go to work. You have an exhausting day. You come home and all you want to do is relax on your couch and catch up on a book. Next thing you hear is a grunge band playing next door. It goes on and on and it's something that you get to look forward to each day you get home from work. Obtrusive noise is obtrusive noise. I don't care if it is a dirt bike, a band, neighbors fighting, etc. Take your hobbies somewhere that they belong. A residential area is not the place. Something else to consider....not everyone works a 9 to 5 job. Some have to sleep in the afternoons.

We have the joy of a dirt bike track at the house behind us. They compete, therefore are ALWAYS out there. It does get annoying because if I have my windows down I cant even hear the TV.

I asked the police (just in conversation) and they said if it was ever to bother me, no matter what time of day it was, than it was a noise ordinance violation.

I have never reported them, they are teenagers, doing something constructive. But it does drive me nuts sometimes. (so I feel for you!)

God forbid if everyone just got over themselves and let people be....sure it can be annoying, but heck, I am eventually going to be annoying too and I would appreciate them suffering in silence as well.....

Are you saying it is acceptable to ride on other peoples private property? Illegally on a state road? Or as the idiot down the street does - Drag race up and down the street on a Sunday night after dark?

I own a 4-wheeler that can be really loud and annoying, but I really try to think of the neighbors when we ride it. I don't go crazy and we never ride for more than 30 minutes at a time. We typically don't ride before 11 in the morning (weekends) and not after 6:30 - 7:00 at night, which I think is reasonable. We've never gotten any complaints and most of our neighbors wave and laugh at us because they can tell we're having some good quality family time. :grouphug:

We go thru a HUGE ditch between 2 houses (neighbors) that I got permission from and we ride back in a wooded area. There are houses around on both sides so like I said before I try to be respectful of those who live in them.

I would absolutely not have a problem with you as a neighbor, now can the opposite be said?

A kid in my neighborhood use to fly up and down the road all the time, it was annoying, but tried to be neighborly and mind my own business, he ended up getting hit by a car..... he is ok now, but whenever I hear 4 wheelers or go carts on the road, I call the non emergency#. It's just not safe.

God, I love the country. No body to bother me with their whining about my kiddo zipping around on his dirt bike...Nobody to moan and groan about my dog and nobody to complain about my REO Speedwagon rattling the walls. 8)

Actually I was there first not that it has anything to do with the situation. I don't think that I will say anything to them because at least they do have their 6ish year old decked out in the protective gear that he needs. I just thought I would get the opinion of others to see if I was being snippy or if I was just getting older. I have always been considerate of neighbors and others because that is the way that I was brought up regardless of the situation and if was/am being done wrong. It is easier to keep my mouth shut sometimes and suffer under the constant whine of a 2 stroke motor than to open it and hurt feelings and friendships. No they don't ride all that late or early but it does become a problem when it encroaches on my piece of mind and sanity. Yes there are worse things to contend with so I will count my blessings.

That just makes you the better person anyway. Silence IS golden. It doesn't make what they're doing any more (or less) considerate, but your Karma will thank you for it.

I catch myself having the same thoughts about kids with loud crap in my neighborhood.
