My best friends mom lost her battle last night and passed away. She was at Duke hospital.:cry: My best friend and the family has come up with 7000.00 for the funeral. They need 5000.00 more to bury their mother. This was sudden and unexpected. Her mother didnt have any money or life insurance. I have been a friend of the family for 20 years and I am hurting along with my friend. I was there when she died. If there is ANY way that my 4042 peeps would donate anything that you can (I know you all dont know her from adam)Even if it is 5 dollars. I would be forever in debt to you all. Please, I am asking for help for my friend. If anyone knows how else one can come up with this kind of money please tell...PLEASE. I dont know what to do to help them.... You can call the funeral home and donate, it has to be today or tomorrow morning. Is there any other way I can help raise money that you all know of?:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry: I saved them a little money by volunteering to do her hair and make up. deceased name is: Donna Riddle Clements Funeral Service 1105 Broad Street Durham NC 27705 Telephone: 800-273-1219 You can also pm me... BTW, this lady was on disability and low income if that helps with how I can raise money.,,,
I am so sorry for their (and your loss) I called and made a donation, they let you do it over the phone with no problem. I hope you can come up with some way to get big funds....
Anyone have ways to lower the cost? I think the whole deal that death and funerals can be so expensive, it is such a ripoff. They literally have a market on human emotions... it just makes me so angry.
can't do it right now, but i will call them before 5pm, hope it all works out T4T and so sorry for your loss:grouphug:
I realize this may sound crass or its too late to change plans...but did they consider cremation? I've always heard its cheaper... :grouphug:
They did consider cremation. Their mom was always scared of being "burned". I know she wont feel it but I guess phycologically(spelling sorry) the kids want a burial. I called Durham social services and they will pay 375.00 towards things. we have about 3000.00 to go. I appreciate it yall....I really do. Makes me think about getting burial insur. on myself and the hubby. So my kids wont have to worry....
Wow.. $12,000. .. can't they do it any less expensive, less expensive casket, etc? We just buried my grandfather last month, and had a very extravagant funeral, and it was $13,000 and that included 8 large sprays of flowers and luncheon afterwards at a nice italian restaurant, 3 limos for the family, etc. It was in Massachusetts though, I don't know how prices compare regionally, but I wouldn't think it would be that much difference.
I think she was saying it costs $7 grand and they need $5 grand more to make the total of $7000, meaning they had about $2000 to start....least thats the way I read it....
That does seem really high, still. Perhaps look at different options for caskets and vaults; if it was sudden sometimes the funeral home people will take advantage of the emotional state of the family and steer the person making the choices towards options that are not budget conscious, and will make them feel guilty for not picking something that is pretty, or the right color, or that has a meaningful picture stitched into the cloth of the lid of the casket, etc. Depending on where she is being buried, perhaps if it is her church cemetery, the church would consider waiving or helping with the fee for opening/closing the grave if they were made aware of the financial situation of the family. I would skip the limo thing if they are doing that, surely someone in the family or a close friend or neighbor could drive the immediate family if they are too distraught. Just some suggestions for lowering the costs.
$7000 for a funeral is just the basics. That's going the inexpensive route. Sad but true. very expensive to bury someone these days.
That's what I'm doing. $800 bux and it's over. I do not understand why people pay huge $$$ for a box that's gonna be buried. My sympathies T4T.
Babe, she was a very large woman and everything is being doubled. It isnt fair but I dont know.*cry* She was 475 pounds. Needs a bigger casket, bigger plot. It is really sad.... I cant believe it either but I guess I understand and if anyone has any questions please feel free to call clements to ask...they are getting the absolute basics. No frills or bells and whistles. thanks SS. I heard they got your 100 donation...How generous. You are a sweetie and her family and I are greatly in debt to you. Your money actually went to the casket....thank you soooo much...I love you guys thanks sooo much.
We are making payments to the funeral home for my father's funeral. We put a couple thousand down, and we make payments each month.
