Well - it is a little soon..... it will hit them when things 'get back to normal'. I can't even imagine losing a child, much less in such a tragic, senseless way.
I can't seem to find his obit anywhere. If anyone hears of it, could you please pass it along? My 9 year old son would like to attend to show his respect.
http://wral.com/news/local/story/2748593/ Four Oaks, N.C. — State troopers Thursday added murder to the list of charges against the man accused of driving a car that struck a 7-year-old boy in a Johnston County hit-and-run Sunday night.
I just read on http://www.1270wmpm.com/ that it is confirmed that he is here illegally. Man Involved In Fatal Hit & Run Accident Is InUS Illegally Immigration officials confirmed on Friday that a man charged in a deadly hit and run accident was in the country illegally. Hipolito Zamora Hernandez is charged with second-degree murder, hit and run, driving while impaired, driving without a license and driving a stolen car. The 29 year-old man, who lived on Parkertown Road just south of Four Oaks, was speeding on Heath Road Sunday evening when he struck and fatally injured 7 year-old Marcus Lassiter of Selma. Hernandez jumped and ran but was captured following an hour-long manhunt. He remains in the Johnston County Jail. Once his case is disposed of in court, he will be placed into the custody of immigration officials. Hernandez had been charged with driving drunk four times in the last four years. He failed to show up for his fourth DWI case in December and an order for his arrest was issued but he could not be found. Photo by Carter Rabil

I also heard on the news this AM that NC was ranked as one of the highest states for drunk drivers!!!! :banghead: :banghead:
Well there's drunk ..and then driving under the influence.... As a consumer OR designated driver, but never both, I often wonder how many of us know how many drinks it takes before we are actually "impaired" as the statue reads. Unfortunately, many of us forget that alcohol is a depressant, that depresses our control first. We may feel bulletproof, but in actuality, many of our capabilities to SAFELY operate an automobile are compromised. And, if we allow that after a few libations we then drive, all it takes is a horrible series of coincidences to make a tragedy happen. Sure, weaving of the road if nothing else is there may be ok. But, with any loss of driver control (plus) someone walking alongside the road getting hit = tragedy. Speeding a few miles over the limit (plus) loss of reaction time = getting into an intersection a fraction of time too late or early => no problem if the intersection is clear, but a tragedy if a pedestrian is there, or another vehicle is in the same place your car is going to occupy. In my mind, it's just not worth it it drive after even one drink. Before I get castigated by those who say they are in complete control and therefore no way connected to the horrible tragedy that occurred in Four Oaks, I would say that unless and until you factually know the physiological and psychological changes that occur in you with X number of drinks, you are operating outside the parameters that guardian angels operate. You just haven't had the coincidental actions totaling up to a tragedy, YET. Please think about this. it might be my family, or me that you are driving towards. Enjoy responsibly.
Would the outrage been as vocal if it was a good ol' boy from JoCo who was driving? The drunk driving is still a crime. The family would be suffering the same. Glass houses, folks. That's all I'm saying.
that's true, but i think more of the outrage comes from the total failure of the justice system to have prevented this accident from happening in the first place. 4 dui's in 4 years. didn't show up for court. in the country illegally. driving without a license/insurance. driving a stolen car. look how many opportunities were missed to get this guy out of here before he could do any damage. if it were a simple case of "drunk driving", it would be easier to target just that particular part of the crime. the fact that the guy committed multiple crimes over a long period of time and nothing was done to slow him down infuriates me. the guy shouldn't have been here in the first place! we have enough of our own drunk driver problems to deal with without criminals from other countries coming in and adding to the problems. keep that **** in your own country. it's not our responsiblity to have to deal with mexico's criminals, or canada's or wherever. and yes, i'd call for murder as the charge if it was a local johnston county boy who drove drunk and hit this child.
Yes! These situations are bad enough by themselves, but to learn that they are repeat offenders, driving with revoked licenses etc......just adds insult to the situation. Like the lady who recently hit a family in Raleigh, killing the father and his son, she was drunk and a repeat offender........just makes me sick!
actually NC is ranked as one of the lowest..... http://www.wral.com/news/national_world/national/story/2776141/
Thanks for that correction  - I guess the coffee hadn't kicked in when I heard the news this AM. I did look on the WRAL site before posting, but didn't see it there either.........:?
