In this weeks Clayton News-Star editorial they mention a meeting at the Clayton Center last week. They state; "Last week, hundreds of employees and contractors from
Talecris gathered for meetings concerning the shutdown at the pharmaceutical firm just east of town."
Anyone have any details about this shutdown? What is happening?

EDITORIAL - Parking situation at Clayton Center poses danger to drivers
    April 30, 2008

One-lane traffic on Fayetteville Street beside The Clayton
Center – and on Second Street, too – poses a hazard for

anyone trying to drive through the area when large

meetings or events are in progress there.

Drivers cannot see to cross the street safely because of

the cars parked along both sides – and must wait for

oncoming vehicles to progress along both streets.

Last week, hundreds of employees and contractors from

Talecris gathered for meetings concerning the shutdown

at the pharmaceutical firm just east of town. Their

vehicles filled the small parking lot and spilled over onto

both sides of Fayetteville Street and Second Street, along

Horne Street, Church Street and even Main Street.

Traveling through the area was a nightmare – and

dangerous – as it is whenever crowds gather at The

    Clayton Center, day or night.

There are two solutions to the problem: Prohibit parking

on one side of Fayetteville and Second streets in that area

and expand the Town Square parking lot that serves The

    Clayton Center.

The town should act immediately to limit parking along

those streets as a safety measure.

As for the “Town Square” (which is more of a rectangle),

it’s obvious that parking for the center’s crowds is

inadequate. The open space does not serve well as a

venue for outdoor events anyway – it is too far removed

from the businesses and restaurants in the center of

downtown to be of much value in downtown promotion.

The town should abandon that site in favor of developing

the property at Main and Lombard streets into a real

“Town Square” with a pavilion and/or bandstand, a large,

open grassy area and some parking spaces down one or

more sides. It is ideal for a farmers market, arts and crafts

displays, concerts, picnics and other outdoor events – and

    close to businesses.

We urge the Town Council to take action on the town’s

only parking problem – and to show its wisdom by

scrapping plans for commercial development of the open

area in the heart of downtown.

Talecris "shutdown" some of the production lines for regularly scheduled maintenance for 3 weeks. They should have that part of the plant back up and running at the end of next week. It can certainly be misleading without an explanation from the writer!

  4. i would love to get a computer job there. I know friends who had worked there and loved it. I know someone I went to JCC with who works there. It would save tons on gas on my car

Talecris has outsourced the majority of its computer jobs. There are a few programmer/systems/analysts type positions, along with a few technical manager-type positions. But the execs want to concentrate on the company's core competencies which are in pharma/biotech and not IS/IT.
