Try Dr. Denis Becker. If you have a gatekeeper HMO, have your primary call in a referral and set up your appointment, let them do any legwork.

Yes, Dr. Becker's practice is the A#1 in the area. He's the big cheese Chief; there are about 8 MD's in that office.
My mom likes Dr. Weir. (Female).

I think that Dr Becker is one of the best there is. Just so you know, he expects his patients to do their part. If they don't, they're wasting his efforts that could be better used for patients who do care and are involved. He does NOT suffer fools gladly, and is is like John Wayne toilet tissue..he don't take no crap off nobody.

If you can't get into Raleigh Endo with their huge wait, I'd as easily recommend Dr Anthony Azzi. He's a great doctor clinically, and a good listener. He's in north Raleigh, off 540 and is who I'd choose first. Just due to the possibility of a long wait, and getting into a crowded office, I'd start with Azzi.

I've seen Dr. Azzi (when he was behind Raleigh Hospital..I think it's called something different now..Duke Raleigh or something like that). I thought he was very thorough and very good.

    Good luck

I used to go to Dr. Becker - he's a nice guy, but I felt like he wasn't listening to me. And he triple books his appointment slots, so an appointment never starts when it's scheduled.
So I switched to Dr. Weir (same practice). I LOVE her! She has really listened & helped me get on an insulin pump - after many "wait & see" approaches from Dr. Becker.

I do hate that I have to go to Raleigh to find a good endo. I hear Dr. Azzi's office was great - but they had a long waitlist when I called.
Also, I use Meehan Medical on Shotwell Road. He's very knowledgeable. One of his nurses used to work at Raleigh Endo (her name is Crystal) and she is excellent. You'll probably have to wait to see any one at Raleigh Endo - they are so busy. But I think Dr. Meehan would be a great "in the meantime" doctor, if you need to see someone quickly.

Agreed that Dr Meehan is sharp. Crystal is the bomb. She's as good as they get. Locally, I also found that Dr Khusayem and Dr Khalek (peds) are diabetes sharp.

When Azzi told me that he was going to open his practice, I knew he'd be popular. Still, we should consider ourselves fortunate in having so many good endocrinologists in the area. Some people drive 2-3 hours one way to get to these folks.

Good luck...and get in control...when it comes to treating diabetes, you are your own best advocate and partner.
