Just wondering. I bought a car from a popular car dealer in Clayton on hwy 70 over a week ago. I just returned from vacation and heard that I got a couple of voicemails from the dealer while I was away. Now, I have bought cars in the past and I have NEVER had return call after the purchase of the car.

I did a little research and found a report on ripoffreports.com about "Spot Delivery Scam" that directly relates to this particular car dealer. I am a little weary right now because I dont know if I should go ahead and bring my attorney into the picture now to give him a heads up.

Just curious if anyone else had something like this happen to them or not, especially with this particular dealership.

Respectfully, I will not mention the name of the dealer (and yes, there are more than one!)

What did the voicemails say? Did they actually say you needed to come back and re-do the paperwork?

Nothing yet. Just asking me to call back which is what caused a bell to ring. I would rather be prepared. Something told me to do some brief research on the internet about the company, and I'm glad I did. I think if they ask me to come in, then the warning bells would definately go off.

Personally I would return the voice mail to see what they have to say. If the person even starts to mention coming back in...Hang up the phone and call your lawyer. I would at least attempt to hear what they had to say first.

I'm with you there, it may be perfectly innocent. If it's a long-time dealer, I doubt they'd be pulling stunts like that. I could be wrong, have been before.

I know when I bought my car... The dealer called twice to make sure I was happy with it and if I had any questions. So it ma be just a follow up call

Thats what I thought too until I read the rip off report involving a scam they pulled on a couple. The finance dealer kept making remarks about my income and the "nice house that I live in". I thought that was a little odd at the time.

So far so good, no posts saying they were a victim! :)

Hopefully my paranoia is just that!

Something similar happened to me with my last car purchase (at a popular dealership in Clayton) but I did not have to go back and sign. They had me purchase the car through their bank (on a Saturday) and told me that my bank would refinance (they quoted it on the computer). I called my bank on Monday and they said they would not finance it b/c it did not "book out". I was stuck with the higher interest rate and program until I paid down the principal so it would "book out". I did not think it was a scam at the time b/c I figured it was just how things worked. Before anyone says anything I have since learned my lesson and do not intend to finance another vehicle.

I just realized that I was a victim of this scam!! I thought it was odd that we had to go back in and sign new papers . . . Thanks Deacon Jones, I appreciate it

No, but they did call back and leave a voicemail stating they "need to go over a few things".

I'm going to make a couple of phone calls tonight and return their calls tomorrow.

    Armed with an attorney! :D

Good idea. Wasn't there someone on here a few years ago complaining about Fran's Auto Mart in Clayton?
