Does anyone have a fancy self-cleaning type litter box or one that uses the crystal litter? I am looking for ways to reduce litter box odor. I have 4 adult cats and have using just plain clay litter that makes a mess.

    Liter box

We used so many different types. We used a 3 in one, that you rotated the trays, and every time you rotated, it allegedly got up the clumps. . . ineffective.

I used the ones you lined with a plastic bag with little holes in it that would allegedly only take up the clumps. again, inneffective.

I tried the 'green' kind (pine, I think). Cat hated it.

I tried the one that cost $200 where after the cat left, an automated system came in and cleaned out the clumps. You still have to clean out the clump tray. Yuck.

The best we ever had was a big, hooded one.

I've tried most of these too. The pine litter was ok for 1 cat but not the other. He decided to pee in my husband's dirty laundry. Went back to plain old clay litter. Litter maid was a waste of $.

Our first litter maid lasted for about 8 years, and it was great until the motor died. Bought a new one and it lasted all of 3 months before the wife chucked it into the trash and bought a Bodadome.

Try switching the cat food. If you are feeding your cat "grocery store" type food (ie: meow mix, whiskas, etc) then that is a large percentage of your problem.

Premium cat food (only a few dollars more in most cases, plus they fill up faster so they dont eat as much) cuts litterbox smells in half! Petsmart/Petco has a great selection. Nutro (my personal fave), Blue Buffalo, etc. I do not suggest Iams. They were brough out by Hills so now they are considered grocery label. (higher salt content too!)

I order mine from Pet Pantry. They deliver! :)

I use the self clumping litter, but I mix baking soda into it. It still clumps and the baking soda cuts the smell a good deal.

Littermate >>>>> too expensive and SUCKS! After it trapped my cat inside once she would never go back to it. Good ole fashion hooded box is the best.
