Mother says child did not run before fall at Chimney Rock http://www.wral.com/news/state/story/2966932/ Some random quotes... So this woman was letting her two year old child walk beside the railing? Huh? DUH. Would any of us here actually NEED a sign to warn us of the dangers of a CLIFF??? I have a backpack carrier for my almost 2YO and a harnass for my almost 4 YO... I would not trust handholding the 4 YO, let alone the 2YO. Some kids, yes - you can hold their hand. But if he was a "pull awayer" as the article describes, I would have taken more precaution that just holding his hand on a cliff with only a railing between him and.... you know. And the part here that REALLY chaps my hide. Interesting they could read the sign that said the child would get in for free, but needed a sign in spanish warning them of the dangers of a CLIFF. Can I just get a quick yay or nay as to who here would NEED a freaking sign to warn them of the dangers of ^this^ CLIFF?
Your not alone there Cleo, I read the article and ranted and raved to DH. Amazing that she can blame her mistake on the park service. She could obviously read the price sign, so why did any warning signs need to be in Spanish?
I have a soon to be 3 year old & a newborn and there is no way in Hades I would take either one of my children hiking here until they were much older. I have taken my 2 year old hiking, but only in areas that are safe & do not have cliffs, ravines, rivers. etc that he could fall into. Very tragic, but I guess it goes to prove that common sense is not always that common.
On a side note, where can I get one of those child "leashes" or harnesses Cleo? I need one for my 2.5 yo, he's an animal, and I'm so afraid of losing him all the time! I've never seen one in a store, and what are they called? Is it a child harness?
DMJ, they have them at Target, you can check them out here http://www.target.com/Eddie-Bauer-2...e=UTF8&index=target&rh=k:child harness&page=1 They are called child harnesses and they are in the baby section where car shades and safety items are.
